2 years down the line what is everyone's views of the stabilisers and how did you all get on
Still happy.
Do what it says on the tin. Easy calving. Cheap to keep (relatively) . Grow well.
Won't be the E grades but respectable enough. Haven't tried any store and that would be my hesitation if that's your preferred option though @topground says he gets on fine selling store.

How did your pure stabilisers do, and did you ever cross them to a British blue bull

Happy with the pures, but have stuck to putting stabiliser bull over them so can't advise on results with a blue bull. Keep considering a terminal but just means another bull to run and happy enough finishing stabiliser bulls and headers. Maybe once the herd is purer and I can be more selective, unless I'm selling bulling heifers by then.

Thanks for the reply, the idea was to have stabiliser heifers and sell calves as stores but I don't know wether to cross with a blue or limo or keep them pure, but like you said previously I don't think there is a market for pure steers

I've been buying in-calf Stabilisers as replacements for aging blue x and angus x sucklers, been very happy with the pure Stabiliser calves so far. Small birth weights and keen to get up and sucking compared to the continentals before them.
I've used a Blonde d'aquitane bull until this year, throwing good cross calves although everything born on farm is finished so can't comment on what stores sell like. Bought a Stabiliser with the intention to breed up a pure herd over the next few years but wouldn't hesitate to use a continental over the Stabiliser cows in the future or if selling stores.

Out of interest did you have many calving problems using blonde bulls

Had the bull 2 years now first year had a few issues had a few difficult carvings and 1 c section not really sure why this year all going better so far had 1 heifer steal the bull and calved down at 20 months with a fair pull but looking a nice little outfit but most cows calving themselves and show good vigour
