How far off is harvest?

Have a week of fishing booked for the week commencing 10th July. Bit nervous that might be somewhat disrupted. When do people think they'll be starting harvest?

Spoke to one agronomist today who thought in south Essex they'd be starting in 2.5 weeks.

This is our Elgar today. Pod taken half way up side raceme. Not intending to put glyphosate on except the odd bit of headland. Guesses for harvest date!

This is compass taken on the 15th

That's a way ahead. When your best guess (yes, before everyone starts saying we don't know what the weather will do, it is a guess) for when it'll be ready?

The one thing about our OSR this year is it's some of the most even we've grown for quite a long while. Everything is maturing as one and so I think we won't have to wait for late pigeon grazed patches.

I'm expecting to spray off around weekend/start of week but it's not all that far ahead, need to keep checking for few days to get the right feel for it, I think harvest will start (guess) in about 2-3 weeks here in this weather, not sure if hybrid barley will beat the rape or not.

Have you cut undessicated osr with the nh before?

Enjoy your fishing, safe in the knowledge that it will be fit and properly ready when you get back.
Better to be standing in the river, than head first inside the combine pulling out 'not quite ready' green crap.
Where are you going?

That is true. Didn't put a picture of the winter barley up because I haven't got one, but I think that's going to be even earlier which will mean the OSR will have a bit more time. I was using the pictures I did have of the OSR to calibrate my expectations of the barley.

Fishing up on the Inver and the Kirkaig (near Lochinver). Might get a lesson on the Dee on the way up.
