Co-op British meat only policy

I see the Co-op are advertising that they will only use British meat from now on. Normally this would mean I'd happily choose them over another shop given the option. But......

As far as I know they still give money to the Labour party. I think the current leadership of that party would crash the country, given the option. So I won't be buying, British or not.

Anyone of a similar opinion?

On the surface , yes , I would agree with you , but I bet if you dug around , you'd find a lot of big name companies making donations to the Labour party without making a public fuss about it so as not to ruffle consumer feathers.

Greasing the palm of a potential leader for future return of favour must have always gone on.

Didn't Tesco financially back Blair for example?

I take your point. Companies of all sorts like to keep "in" with potential governments. But Corbin and his fellow crazies are another matter. The Co-op is aligned with Labour in the same way many unions are. I just can't ignore it.

No , I do agree with you. If you are offended by a company's political leanings, then it's good to have the information placed in front of you so you can make an informed decision.

If this is true, then I'll be looking to buy my butchermeat somewhere else, preferably a company that sells British produce and doesn't support the Labour party, but I just hope I don't get a shock further down the line.

My now Ex Mother in Law, would not set foot in a Co-op
and wild horses wouldn't have driven her in one for the very reason you have mentioned.
Always thought she was a bit cranky, when she would drive much further rather than frequent the local Co-op store, now I would agree with her and do likewise.

Don't forget farmers may do better under labour.

Just buy 5 years worth of tack before the election and then reap the benefits of a crashing pound.

And I am not a labour voter however I may shop in the coop with a clean conscience.
some do seem to forget that farming has had it better under Labour government in the past...

If you think there is a chance it would be better under Corbyn and McDonnell then you're seriously deluded. Income tax, land tax, inheritance tax, zero support ( financial or market ). I'll take my chance with the Tories a bit longer. I do agree historically during a labour government farming has done better although there is a huge difference between a left leaning government and covert communism.

Do they use all British pork / chicken on their pizza etc. these days? I won't buy EU pork until they abide by EU law and get the sow stalls out (have they all yet?) so that rules out pretty much any meat pizza off the shelf.

I think ( as intended) the poster has turned this political.

If you let snobbery get in the way then you are making to much money. In a moment we will be complaining who they sell to !!

If Co-op sell 100% British, then they should be supported , bxxxxcks to the politics !!!
I didn't "turn it political", this thread is political from the start.

If I now choose to buy from Co-Op, they'll have more money to give to Labour. My money in fact. It doesn't just not sit easy; with the present Labour leadership, the prospect horrifies me.

Saying "bxxxxcks to the politics" because CO-Op's policy may help some farmers in the very short term is naive IMO.
