What precautions can one take to "TRY"and prevent ones E-mails AND computer being hacked in to.
This on line ordering of parts etc very much concerns me due to the above.

Use very strong passwords, if the site in question allows, use numbers, letters, both uppercase and lowercase, and special characters when creating the password.
Never use the same password anywhere else, also try and use more than one email address for sign-ups.
If you only have one email address and it gets hacked, then all online accounts that use that email address are at risk.

As for keeping your pc/laptop safe, never click on links in emails from people you do not know. Be careful what links you click when browsing websites. If you hover your mouse over any link, it should give the web address of that link in the lower left of your browser. This can enable you to see if the link is safe eg: the link says it is to visit another part of the same website, but hovering over it displays a different domain in the lower left of your browser.

Change passwords regularly.

I've now got into the habit of letting safari choose and fill in all my passwords for me and it replicates through keychain to all other devices, so you never have to remember all these different passwords, just click in the box and the cached password is filled in for you.
