Smoking

Stopped a few years ago. Was smoking 40+ a day. Wait until you want to stop, not when people keep telling you to stop.
Decided that my life wasn't going to be ruled by a thin tube of paper and tobacco. Put one in a jar and each time I wanted a smoke looked at the fag and thought, bearing in mind all the real challenges that we face, that a fag was not going to beat me.
Kept cigarettes in house and car so didn't get panicky thinking I can't have one if I really want one. Didn't have one.
Put off cravings with glass of water, walk, or any diversion.
Pig to live with for a couple of weeks but it worked.

I once worked out that if I'd put the money that I spent on fags into a life policy , the result would have been an enormous sum . So I thought I would have an amount of money to save when I gave over , didn't work that way though , I must have frittered it away . Still , I take comfort from the fact that I wasn't spending my money killing myself !

HAHAHAHA reminds me
Lady: Do you smoke?
Guy: Yes I do.
Lady: How many packs a day?
Guy: 3 packs.
Lady: How much per pack?
Guy: $10.00 per pack.
Lady: And how long have you been smoking?
Guy: 15 years
Lady: So 1 pack is $10.00 and you have been smoking 3 packs a day which puts your spending per month at $900. In 1 year, it would have been $10,800. Correct?
Guy: Correct.
Lady: If 1 year you spend $10,800, not accounting for inflation, the past 15 years puts your spending total at $162,000. Correct?
Guy: Correct.
Lady: Do you know if you hadn’t smoke, that money could have been put in a step-up interest savings account and after accounting for compound interest for the past 15 years, you could have by now bought a Ferrari?
Guy: Oh. Do you smoke?
Lady: No.
Guy: Then where’s your f**king Ferrari?

Yes got a great trick to get you off..worked for me
I smoked 20 a day and limited my self to one cig every hour which was really easy,so now i am down to 16 a day
when busy i made my self stop and light up every hour
now i found that very easy for 2 weeks then streched it to an hour and 15mins then next two weeks an hour and a half
then one cig every 2 hours now i am on 8 a day..my rule was if i go over the hour by say 10 mins the next one can not be smoked untill the full hour has past so that can cut another couple in a day you have got to be very stricked with the times
In the end i was down to a few a day one with breakfast one at lunch and one with dinner and one before bed
and still today i have stuck to that, just try it and keep an eye on your watch get down to under 10 a day should be your aim
for now this way gives your body chance to adjust and the thought of never being able to smoke again for us smokers is pretty scarey...lets face it you cant being enjoying every one of them smokes during one day just lighting up as a habit i guess i know i have been there Good luck

I put on a stone initially, now Mrs N is working hard at my diet to get it off again.

I'd hoped after more than 12 months the cravings would have gone, but maybe once in a month it returns, and the smell from other people now puts me right off.

I was at the dentist yesterday, who informs me my gums are still not recovered and am still in danger of losing more teeth.
