LPG gas or electric storage heaters?

Hello,
I currently have LPG gas central heating which I use sparingly, mainly for the upstairs. Also have a wood burning stove downstairs. I discovered yesterday that our gas boiler is knackered and will need replacing, probably at a cost of around £3k. For years my parent's have been telling me that I would be better off with electric storage heater's like them, and now that I'm going to have to shell out some money for something I thought it would be interesting to hear what other people think.
At present our gas cost is about £900 a year and rising, and standing charge £63 a year, that's before paying to have boiler serviced annually at a cost of about £100. This is for a 4 bed detached farmhouse in a fairly exposed position, and as I said, we use gas as little as possible.

If you read some of the stuff on line about the cost of electric v gas it seems like a daft question to be asking but as you say, new ones have improved greatly. Stove is in the living room so even a bigger one wouldn't be enough to send heat upstairs due to the quirky layout of the house, plus it would be like a furnace in there if I went for a bigger one.

I know loads of folks that have ditched the gas heating and put multifuel burners in to heat the house but they thought it was a cheap heating source untill they had to aquire the logs to feed them ,,ware as my place is 380yr old but with the rayburn on ,its very cosy in winter (free wood) ,plus I can cook on it so the electric cooker goes redundant from beginning of october till the end of may

I would love to have a rayburn put in but would cost a fair bit more than I have to spare. I think that's why my parent's can get away with the storage heaters costing little to run as they have a solid fuel rayburn and an open fire as well. Where would we be without free wood?

gas will be better than electric, but have you thought of putting in a wood burner stove in living room with a back boiler in to heat the central heating instead of replacing the old boiler, costs would be about the same to replace, but no gas bill after, so saving, and if you have free wood, then its a win win

so replumb the house to regs to put in a dirty smelly woodburner which needs constant attention and if you go away in winter your house freezzes,i have 2 by the way ,put in the new gas bolier ,cheaper easier

Electric storage heaters always been way more expensive than oil or LPG.
Don't think things have changed that much. A lot of the claims by the newer types is just marketing spin.
1kW electric into a heater now is still 1kW like it's always been.
