Probably teaching folk how to suck eggs, but the correct way to check a spirit level is to compare readings at 180° - if the bubble shows the same error then it's right and the surface isn't level/plumb, if the error swaps sides then it's the level that's at fault.

To answer OP, use your little square to fabricate a bigger square our of angle iron, you can even cut the corner out to allow welding there, the angle is perfect to g-clamp the metal when fabricating too.

Best homemade are out of box section,you cut a slot in the box and weld flat into it.

I had a load of box that wasn't square for some reason, would that work?

It had an industrial accident somewhere along the line and it was Rhomboid.

Two of mine are!, all stantions lean the same and the brick building has a fall on its gutter by following the roof line, the ground has sunk in the 50 years they have been up
