Perkins 3 cylinder

I have an old pirkins 3 cylinder engine. When it gets hot it keeps cutting out but not sure why. It seems like a fuel problem but can't find anything obvious. Any suggestions much appreciated

It'll not be a P3 then.Likely an AD3.152 as in a MF 135. Will it start again when cold or does it need bled? Have you loosened the tank cap-- is the breather clear? Could it be drawing air?Try a gravity fuel feed from a drum.
I have a 135 that would stop when hot. No problems any other time. Injector pump was checked out twice, new lift pump, tank washed out,new pipes and all filters cleaned and still it would die only when hot. Removed the filter head hoping to find a crack that perhaps was opening due to the heat but no. Nothing.Refitted it and it has been fine since. That was 2 years ago. Still don't know what was wrong. However, if you're sure the filters are spotless, including the one inside the inlet end of the inj pump(if it's still there),try pouring cold water over the pump. It's possible the pump could be worn enough that when the workings get hot enough and expand, pressures are lost. Cold water will contract the parts again. Worth a try.

Hi.

Your problem is caused by lo.sulphur fuel.
Put about 0.5 teacup new engine oil fuel tank.
Have same problem with a JCB 520 when running on winter
diesel.
When the pump gets hot the metering valve sticks.
Try rapping the pump with the handle end of a hammer.

When you say wont start, do you mean wont turn, or turns slowly? The JD 6506 here would not turn fast enough to start hot, turned out it was seizing up!

Or clean the fuel filter gauze that is usually placed in the fuel pipe fitting supplying the rotary injector pump with fuel. On the roundy part of the pump, under the red plug .........
It may well be blocked, be careful as there is a valve at the bottom

Hi.
Lo. sulphur may not be the cause of this problem.
If you have similar pump problems try the oil trick.
If you do try it please post your findings on here, good or bad.
Lots of truckers in the US add a gallon of two/stroke oil @every fill up.

I do on occasion add some atf to some things to give the injectors and pump a clean out. Have had a NH 7840 that sometimes was slow to rev, especially after taking off at a road junction. The atf cured it.

I put 5 litres into the full tanks of the 7840, which would have been into about 215 litres of diesel,or thereabouts. Some say ATF isn't ideal as it isn't designed for burning and perhaps 2 stroke oil will do the same thing(??) but I've had no problems using it.
