Got home to find sinister, thick brown manilla RPA envelope.
Opened it to find they had refunded me £30 or something.
Cynically, my first thought was "did this cost them more than £30 in time to work out".

I think it is possibly the FMD refund from 2016? Are you referring to a remittance advice?

Yes, my first thoughts were "oh hell" but I opened it rather than putting it behind the clock to find a nice booklet and a statement for the pennies.

Just before we sold up MAFF (Remember them?) Unexpectedly sent us a nice little cheque for £585! "How nice" we thought "Dunno why they sent us that though, can't think why they owe us it but never mind MAFF are always right are they not?" and into the bank it went. Fast forward a few months and we received another communication from them, this time at our new address , just a letter this time, with words to the effect "Oh hello there, how are you? Nice day isn't it? Um er you know that cheque we sent you? Well, be a dear and send us one back for the same amount would you please? You see the thing is, we appear to have made a little bit of a bloomer and sent you that money by mistake, it seems we didn't owe you that money after all. Sorreee!"

Reimbursement of balance of FDM (Financial Discipline Mechanism deducted from 2016 payment. Any unspent in 2016 yea is refunded to claimants the following September.

And did you??

Got paid IACS twice one year, but they wouldn't pay once the year after, don't know why!!
Apparently a common mistake that year, PITA, but helped cash flow no end.

They were an absolute shower weren't they? It didn't inspire much confidence when you phoned up their "Helpline" (Helpline? HA!) to ask a question about filling in The Suckler Cow Premium form and the person at the other end says "I dunno, I've just left school and I know nothing about cows!" (WTF?)
To answer your question: We certainly did! We even asked our accountant what we should do and she agreed with us i.e OK we might have got away with it but we had just sold up, we wanted to "Draw a line under everything " and move on with our lives , the last thing we needed at that stressful time was MAFF hanging around our necks. The ironic thing was 6 years later MAFF was no more!

Just received remittance for "FDM Reimbursement for 2016". Is there any way of knowing if their calculation is correct? Have attempted to reconcile our figures in the past - impossible!!!
