Purchase advice

First off hi to all, new user here.

Looking for some advice, we are looking at a Same 70 aster 4wd with loader, its going to be used for topping loading and hedge cutting.

Is it suitable for hedge cutting or is it to small ? We have an old Bomford highwayman.

We have £8000 to buy something to do the jobs listed above, do you think the Same is worth it or is there a machine you can recommend ?

Any advice would be great.

Thanks in advance
Aaron

Most loader tractors today seem to be 100 120 hp, big load to choose from, case jd mf would be the main players, where do you live, always handy to be near dealer who sells a few bits for your tractor.

My [female] cousin has one of those. It does the job, although it is light. However, I would not buy one in less than premium condition and that includes trim, oil leaks, functioning hydraulics, good clutch and brakes and nice synchromesh gearshifts.

As for 'recommend'? I wouldn't dare recommend any particular machine unless I could see it and you, and test it first. You might end up with an expensive heap of scrap and blame me or whoever recommended that model to you.

Richard was recommended to me via a friend and i have been to see him and he is a great guy but its not him that is in question lol, i am not sure if the Same is up to hedge cutting, we have an old leyland 255 here (which i was told at the time i purchased my hedge cutter would be fine) but if you hitch the hedge cutter up to the leyland its front wheels are off the floor.

i need to replace the leyland but dont want to end up with something to small, i am also looking at a case 5140 obviously its big enough but it doesn't have a loader and it looses drive when turning the steering hard that is coming in at 7k so i would have 1k to try and sort it.

Cant believe how hard finding a tractor has been, i have been looking for months and it seems to be either scams (nearly lost 8K on a tractor that doesn't exist) or a load of crap or its gone before i call.

Anyway thanks for any advice.

Hours?
Loader tractors get no love or affection.
That cab was steam cleaned out, and see the shine on the pedals ..................

Price sounds reasonable, with a written guarantee from back to front, not just engine.
Extend the warranty if you can, but if the seller cant actually do the repairs, its a waste?

Edit:
Will a grand fix the Case?

Sorry I'm extremely hard to please ...............

Warranty? On that? Probably only extends to the dealer's yard gate.
He might give a money back if not satisfied/one week warranty though. Might. Give him a go and see what he says; you might be pleasantly surprised but don't take offence if not.

Price is the main constraint to purchasing a suitable tractor here, its obvious. Approaching the third decade of the 21st Century, with new basic 90hp 4wd tractors costing about £30k, its no surprise that you are scraping the bottom of the barrel when looking for tractors with loaders for less than 10k I'm afraid. It's not impossible, but it needs speed and contacts to secure a good one at the right price. Who knows, this might be it? Or not?

Sorry about that, my mistake ..............
But the only reason I mentioned it was to draw the buyers attention to the length of warranty cover given, in a pleasant friendly manner, nothing more.

Certainly, if I offered a tractor like that for sale a warranty would be expected, regardless of the price paid.

I suspect it would not be quite regardless of the price paid but fully in accordance with the perceived or potential risk of something expensive going bang and the margin you were making on the sale after costs but before that 'warranty'.
It would almost certainly also depend on the kind and duration of warranty you had in mind. The least risky is the money-back guarantee where if something small goes wrong on the major parts, like a hydraulic pump, it could be made good, or if something more expensive failed, back it would come with money back to purchaser, so it could be repaired in your workshop and resold at a higher price to cover a high proportion or all the repair cost.

What few people appreciate is that even a new tractor isn't actually warranted by the dealer. The manufacturer warrants the tractor and the dealer bills them for the repairs. To expect anything more than a basic warranty that such a tractor as this is 'serviceable' and safe, is asking a whole lot from a dealer and that risk he carries must be reflected in the purchase price. I would say that if the farmer wishes to carry that risk, which is exactly the same risk as he expects the dealer to carry, then that should obviously be reflected in a lower margin or selling price than otherwise.

Think im going to give the Same a miss just because after reading the data sheet for it it seems to be roughly the same weight as our 255, not heavy enough for our hedge cutter.

So im back to the Case 5140, nice tractor but im not sure £1000 is enough to get it sorted.

I will just use it until the problem gets to bad, anyone have experience with the 5130/5140 maxxum ?
