Today at work

The feral cats are getting very tame - must be short of rats they are keen to be fed every morning at present.

Granny cat.

Mummy cat. Daddy cat (who is also Grandpa cat ) is still pretty wary so runs away too quick for a pic.

Meanwhile indoors, Wilbur cat (son of Mummy cat) is thoroughly non-feral and at a year old has definitely decided where the best place is...
018.JPG

Having said he is non-feral, his mother taught him well, he will spend hours hunting spiders, and ( :stop: ) he recently brought into the kitchen (and released) a live baby rat and the following week a live baby rabbit (he leaves an awful lot of dead ones of both species outside the door too).

Whilst Tiger Frosty, no relation, a tame cat who has been allowed in the house for years, has never laid in front of the Aga in all that time, until after seeing Wilbur, later on .....

Few normal jobs, fed lambs, fed these guys
20171017_091914.jpg

Went to my other job and mustered in lambs, came home and shifted my beefies... uh-oh, bloat alert!!
20171017_153231.jpg

He wasn't looking too good for a while, got a hose down him but not much gas came out.. then he started walking backwards...
No vet within 30 minutes so out with the knife :inpain:
20171017_162343.jpg

And now he's eating, hopefully won't lose the wee guy :nailbiting: got some antibiotic into him so here's hoping he's as fortunate as the many cows I've "treated for bloat" in the past
Definitely the worst free-gas bloat I've encountered! (n)

So, if it's a nerve infection causing the bloat, hopefully the antibiotic will help?
Any ideas?
He can swallow a garden hose (not choking) and poo, bit smelly and watery but he was under fair pressure.
At least he can breathe!

We very rarely get bloat. Sometimes you just don't find a cause. What was he eating?

He was in the paddock we moved the wire for our wee pet calves, when you were over.
Third day in there, I was moving them out when I noticed him way at the back, on the wrong side of the creek... so all I can think of is either he's picked up something out of the rubbish hole (unlikely to really, and no plastic goes in there) or perhaps as the vet said over the phone - it can be an infection of the nerves around the rumen?
He seems ok now, after my agricultural vet surgery :nailbiting: (still waiting for some grief about stabbing him) and a decent shot of bovipen; he wanted a drink straight away and probably drank 6 litres, and then straight into some grass
I have him and 2 mates in the nextdoor paddock so I can keep a close eye on him tomorrow - will give him more AB to be on the safe side if he does have an internal infection.
Normally I'm pretty good with preventing bloat because I've had to deal with lots, esp on the organic farm.
Bottle of speights works a treat for collapsing frothy bloat- which this wasn't.
Have him a litre of oil first up and then gave his belly a rock.
That's when I could hear the sound of free-gas bloat, things happened a bit quick to not get the knife out

Last couple of days,
Finished drilling a block of away land land.
20171015_175441.jpg

We Made full use of all available space on the seed trailer to save a trip.
Then I got caught up with the rolling while dad pulled some more down ready to drill

The crows were quick to find the fresh drilling.

Ground ploughed a fortnight ago is coming down lovely but we could soon do with a crop of rain.

That's a bold statement asking for rain!!!! We haven't got a seed in the ground this autumn.

not a pleasing crop but a midday start and some sun to give it a half decent chance.
IMG_20171017_113537.jpg

Heavier field with a temporary ley that's coming to end of its life. Being clover free has allowed us to spray the docks and thistles out, it's really clean now so I really don't want to plough it up again... What to do..
May have to get someone in to direct drill some long term with red and white into it come the spring, and hopefully get something a bit more milky like this.

Yep not concerned about not getting it in, my ground will drill anytime of the year. Everything drilled up to now has emerged very well but we have got a couple of heavy bits that were drilled over the weekend that'll benefit from a soaking.
