Abuse on the roads

Well obviously whoever this Ronnie Pickering is he's a complete 'to**er' in the worst possible sense. Rude, impatient & possibly violent. He may be using an aliarse & may be John Smith for all we know but the whole episode would make me very nervous as a biker because you are just so vulnerable & exposed when drivers flip like that! Really not nice.:(
The second clip is worse! Wow!

There is a debate among cyclists which is better, riding file or double.
Riding double in a dense pack gives following drivers far less of an obstacle to get past on a country lane than perhaps 12 spaced out single file bikes

In general I would agree that doubled up does give a better chance to overtake, unless you come across some of the twits that ride around here. I followed seven cyclists in a village, only one safe passing point, indicate to overtake and the numpty at the back decides he should be at the front of the pack making three abreast. I had the last laugh as i hit the horn he hit the road.

No rules relating to number of cars, just if you're causing a tailback you should be considerate to other road users and pull off where safe to do so, be careful with bus stops though as one jumped up traffic copper gave a tractor driver a ticket for obstructing one locally when he pulled over in one despite there being no bus anywhere to be seen.

Rules on beacons are when travelling at speeds of less than 25mph on a dual carriageway or at any time that you may pose a hazard to other road users.
you have to have a beacon on at all times on a duel carriageway and to be visable from the rear, includes fastracs aswell, there is a bloke on here with the ticket to prove it

You have to be careful. It is no good getting wound up on the roads, better to curse under your breath and move on. Anyone who is familiar with pistonheads will remember the guy on there who got busted for causing a death whilst what the police described as 'dangerous driving'. Got a custodial sentence basically through being at the wrong place at the wrong time. If I remember correctly it was a motorcyclist he collided with. It could have been any of us. A second's worth of lack of attention and you have killed someone. A few more minutes of holding up the traffic whilst bale carting and someone tries a silly over-take and collides with an on-coming vehicle, not a nice thing to have on your conscience.

in the car one sunday afternoon coming out of town I passed a L200 on a stretch of dual carriageway. after next roundabout he came along side me shouting out the window which I basically ignored I turned left at the lights and he decided to follow me then passed and stopped in front of me. I drove round him and had to stop at a red light. he came ripping up blowing the horn and swearing - people in car in front of him were starting to get out to see what was going on. I put my window down and as nicely as I could said "Do you mind not swearing, my wifes in the car" he exploded at this point the lights went green and I drove on :D:LOL:
normally I might've given as good back but this time was better not too

As a 23 yo female I was driving up the M6 one day and a car full of lads drew level with me at 70 mph and they were all gesticulating at me. :cautious: Somewhat disconcerted, I focused on the road ahead and ignored them. They pulled in front of me and the lads in the back turned round and were still giving me a lot of attention. :cautious::cautious: Dropped my speed so I fell back and eventually they pulled away. :smug:

When I got to my destination I found my keys in the boot lock (before remote key fob locking). I couldn't find them when I set off and had driven with my spare key in the ignition. :banghead::oops:

I can't remember ever seeing very angry/rude drivers behind me in the tractor but the best one I had was when driving back home down a lane in my car and came up to 2 cyclists riding abreast. I was just following/waiting for them to go round a couple of bends so I could pass on the straight bit but after about 5 or 10 seconds an impatient car driver behind me beeped his horn so the cyclists turned round looking sheepish thinking it was me and moved to single file waving for me to pass. Then he raced past me on the short straight and I don't exactly hang about while i'm driving either.

This view won't be popular, but I think 2 abreast on bikes is ok on an open road wide enough to still pass them safely. Cycling by myself cars overtake without crossing the white centre line with a couple of inches to spare. At least 2 wide you have to move out across the road properly. Better thn than strung out in a line of MAMILs that takes ages to get past.

I think most people are less tolerant of other road users now. I blame bigger, more sound proof cars with their 5 star NCAP crash ratings that insulate drivers from the outside environment in every way.

They should be made to drive a soft top Series 1 Land Rover for a month as part of their car test! That soon makes you appreciate a more modern motor. Still, at least the road in front of you is always open - 'cos they're all behind you...

I pull in when I can I hate having cars behind me.
I openly admit now that a couple of months ago I reported a tractor that travelled 10 miles without pulling in despite this road having specified pull in areas he passed three of them and he never once looked in his mirrors
In considerate bastarrd

Agreed.

I do a lot of solo riding and its unbelievable how close people cut it.

Had a truck overtake me 1 day between 2 corners(couldn't call it a straight) i was moving well (55kph) as i heard him make the move i thought it was brave as i wasn't going much slower than his normal speed but as his trailer passed me about 18inches away from me i couldn't believe what i was seeing. He remained on the wrong side of the road aroumd the corner. Pure madness.

500m later there was a nice long straight.
