Went along today for my Flu [prevention] Injection. Have to say how really well organised and smooth it all was considering the numbers involved. Another big plus for the NHS working at it's best. :)

One year both parents ended up in hospital with the flu, both in their nineties, and had been getting their jabs for years.
Talking to my surgeon nephew about the incident he did say that if they hadn't had the jabs then the attack would probably have killed them. It was a particularly vicious strain that year.
I've been getting them for about ten years now and up to this year, never the slightest reaction. This year I was due to go on holiday 3 days after the jab and 2 days after I went down with the sniffles. 'Great', I thought, 'ill on holiday'. Didn't last 24 hours and apparently it was a reaction to the jab.

Had it for a few years now, haven't had flue or even a heavy cold since the first jab. The wife and I had it done yesterday, our local doctors surgery is feckin useless so we had it done at Sainsbury's :).

I've been wondering about the effect on colds as well. I used to get every one that was going round but now find that my last one was March 2016. Also, on Radio 4 I listened to an interview with one who has done research on the effect of statins in helping the immune response. So I am wondering if the 2 are working together to help me in resisting the challenge of the cold virus. Having written all this I suppose I will succumb shortly!

It's an amazing thing to be able to go through the whole winter/year without getting flu or at least a heavy cold, the most I get these days is a sniffle. If I had too I would pay to have it (y).

Some are rough after it some not.
Others get flu bad later in winter others do not .
Beats me as they say they cant release it untill the prevalant strain on said year is know ?Still early yet so how do they know ???
Just guess at stats. is it ?

But they must have been manufacturing it since late Spring in order to have enough to go round.
My grandad was persuaded by a doctor to have the flu jab, a few hours later he was rushed to hospital on a blue light. These jabs are only their best guess of what might be most prevalent in six months time. I never had jab even when working in hospitals, never got flu. My view is that most people don't need it. Even if you have the jab it doesn't stop you catching a different strain. The swine flu jab didn't stop anyone from getting swine flu, it would just shorten the duration by about 30 hours. Whoopee o_O
