people slag off JCB but our js 145s load 22 tonne self propelled spreaders quicker than any other 360. And we have tried them all.
That will be correct. Muckshifting and loading lorries is a JCB JS's forte. Digging drains with one in fivehundred fall is not. Can be done but much harder than a Hitachi or Case for example.
Local drainage chaps got a highly specced JS130 as a replacement for a Case. Could not get on with it on highly accurate jobs. Fantastic for running the crusher bucket or loading though. So bought a new case for accurate work eventually, and kept the Jcb for the breaker etc. Horses for courses.

What’s your local dealer/backup? Case, hitachi , Volvo, doosan all excellent machines

Got case locally and did speak with them and very helpful, other than that got molson group in Warrington. Half the problem is we’ve always hired so never really bothered looking at used machines or who has them now there’s a chunk of work to deal with the education is starting from scratch.

Ridgway rentals may be worth a call ed as they sell ex hire machines as well.

It’s funny you shoukd say that as the opinion locally is that the older JSs are ideal for grading work etc but useless at digging and ripoing due to lack of power!!! I should think that any 13tonner on a farm woukd be a ten fokd improvement on anything that’s been before.

What needs to be factored in these instances is that it’s the operator that gets the best from a machine. I had some groundsource trenches dug this summer, yes I coukd of dug them myself with the machine but no way would I of done them by lunchtime with the turf and topsoil tidy on one side of trench with the spoil on the other and including sorting any sand we came across into handy piles here and there for covering the pipes!!!

Bought a 2007 Volvo EC140BLC last year with 6000 hours on. Fantastic bit of kit, everyone kept saying volvo parts are expensive etc etc but they've got a massive stock of good secondhand parts which saves a bit of money - would definitely buy another volvo

Komastu pc 130 here from new in 2006 , great digger and working away the same as new , the same age / hr hitachi will have more wear on the pins and bushings. The komastu also has a longer reach than the hitachi which makes a big differance when working .

I run three 13/15 tonners, two JS130's and a Case CX130 these are all excellent at grading and precision work and are very reliable.
Early common rail Isuzu 2008+ can have issues with cracking heads the best JCBs are 2008-
If I were looking for a new machine it would probably be a Case having said that there's nothing wrong with Volvo, Hitachi, Doosan (thirsty) etc, not sure about newer Komatsu's I've had 2 and they had problems

I agree I've heard the newer komastu are not as good mine is the dash 7 , the newer dash 8 were not as good.

And the search continues, went out at the weekend and what was advertised as a 4000 hour machine turned out to have 7500 hours on it along with a very poor respray. Then arranged to look at another this morning at Whitchurch and the guy couldn’t even be arsed to keep the appointment.
What’s the world coming to !!!
I give up.

Lads here selling and if you ask more than two questions, they hang up. Tell you, their after buying a fleet and had to take it to get the good stuff. If you want it its there, otherwise dont annoy me, is the attitude.

Took me more than six months to find my machine & this was just at the start of the 2008 crash. I was surprised at some of the vendors lackadaisical attitude. F them was my eventual attitude I'll go elsewhere. I did & found a nice low houred machine with a reasonable full set of buckets. Remember good buckets cost more than you think & you don't want to be looking when you could be working the machine! Plus a good quick-hitch as the hours saved with instant changes is never a looser.
I'd hazard the 13 ton range is in high demand owing to the new boom in building site use.

Potentially in the market for a 13-14ton 360 what are the recommendations or more to the point anything to avoid? Thinking cat, volvo are top of the pile with hitachi, doosan, Hyundai and kobelco making up the difference?
Available budget is throwing up machines around the ‘08-‘10 age wise but with hours seem to vary from 4000-7500.
All helpful comments gratefully recieved.

Or
Recommend a dealer with a yard full of used machines.
