Cost of telehandler ownership vs tractor loader

Has the Matbro been welded solid in the middle? Never heard of anyone who preferred using a tractor and loader after having had the use of a dedicated handler :)

Not at all!! it is a fantastic machine and a million times better than a 4 wheel steer machine. My point is if I could only have the loader tractor or the telehandler, it would have to be the tractor as it is so much more flexible with in my operation. Matbro wont plough, drill, mow bale ect.

Oh I see!
No, I couldn't farm with just a pivot steer, it's just in your post it seemed you preferred using a tractor and loader full stop.
My JCB 406 would be hopeless on anything other than hard ground or concrete and forget pulling a trailer, and that's why you still need a tractor and loader if leading bales or as a backup in my case!
However it will always be the JCB if at all possible :)

Come back JD 3800 ,,,,,, all is forgiven !!!!!

I was told that rigid are just as manoeuvreble as a artic ,,, yes they in them selves have a tight turning circle but stick a bucket or straw spreader on the front and bloody hell its useless

Too late for that now! Ask your local Manitou dealer to bring a demo of the new Manitou pivot when it finally comes to UK market.

What dont you like about it
Ive driven both loads and while its easier to load bales with a pivot ivenever come across a situation i can achieve with one and not the other i just find it requires different tactics to achieve some jobs with each machine

How much bigger than our mla628 do you think it will be? There is no machine on the market anymore which is as compact but of the same capacity. The jcb 320 looks big and cab acess is poor compared to mla in my oppinion. Pitty they finnished updating mla 628 and bring out that hideous mla630.

I dont know any details. I expect it will be a touch bigger than the old one though. I think this new one will be right after the total flop of the 630 they really cant afford to fudge this one up aswell.

I'd say you're getting towards a £20k loader tractor and £20k handler at the next tractor swap?

Been giving the job a lot of thought and I've basically arrived at this conclusion ;). Well, sort of.

Telehandler won't be needed until autumn 2019, which also coincides with loader tractor 3yr finance deal coming to an end.

With price of new tractors having gone up so much with emission regs etc, I reckon i'd be looking at £20-£25k to change for another 120hp loader tractor.

So I plan to keep existing loader tractor and instead spend the £20-25k on a decent used Kramer or similar. So have two machines doing 500ish hrs p.a. rather than one doing 1,000+, so they in theory should last twice as long. Keep each machine 6yrs but change one of them every third year.

Buying a used Kramer will mean that my man-in-van @ £30/hr can look after it rather than main stealers at £60/hr +. And having two loaders on site will mean that I will always be able to feed up if one machine goes bang. I've always got away with it, but having just one machine and 250hd of cattle is a risky strategy.

So I guess the next question is how much of a telehandler can I get for £20k ish......... (n)

@Nearly keep your eyes peeled for a nice genuine non-dairy farmer machine over the next 18months..... (y)

Until recently we had tractor loader and telehandler.

However the tractor loader has now. gone and the cost of putting a loader on the replacement coupled with the cost of replacing our forklift with new has made me think i would be better with 2 older forklifts.

The tractor loader really was a one trick pony. Good for loading and pulling the bale trailer home but crap at anything else.

Just need to save up for a tidy old Forklift. Sometime next year maybe.

cut that silly metal flexi bit off, its making the hose kink at the ferrule causing a weak point for the hose.
you an get ferrules with a short metal spring tail which would be ideal for that or maybe a 45 deg/135deg fitting would sit better instead of a straight fitting
What type of pressure involved there? Is that carrying fluid from a master cylinder? I ask because I replaced the brake pipes on an old Sanderson with a flexible brake pipe with an outer cover of braided stainless.

Not much pressure on handler brakes imo. No more than 90bar to the axles on most.

Sanderson is a pain as they used car style fittings on ends of hose were alot others just use normal hydraulic hose.

What are dieci handlers like ? I’ve a ageing skidsteer that will be going this year and my local dealers have just taken on dieci so will be trying a small handler
