Yes John, I dare say you are right. It is just that I have seen this wind blown infestation several times over the years and it's effects seem to be hundreds of times worse that wingless aphids wandering around in a seedbed.

Trouble is there is so much talk about drilling "on the green" and spraying off after drilling, which people are doing successfully, makes you wonder what is right.


I have to say my experience of drilling on the green has been good, but very mixed when seeding into brome/bg or couch patches. It's clearly a reservoir and cereals are sweeter they are on them before they even come through the ground.
 
Dying couch rhizomes suppresses crops glyphosate has eliminated it

Bad grassweeds the spring crops or non cereal crop is the only answer
Or good ploughing with the right plough
Most ploughing I see on heavy land is no better than a set of discs
Proper burial and level finish is impossible on heavy land from all the ploughs sold now on silty and sandy soils they can work but not on any remotely heavy land Rag dale denchworth etc

I never knew that. That would explain a big problem I had with it a few years ago.
