You can get a box of about 170 Erbaur bits, up to and including 6mm for about £30 from Screwfix, I've not broken one yet.
I suspect that the Dormer HSS ones from the likes of Cromwell tools would cover your needs for larger sizes at sensible money

I mostly buy Bosch drill bits from the local fixing supplier, they have a nice hollow ground tip, and stay sharp for a good while. Buy in boxes of ten on the smaller sizes and boxes of five over 8mm. Or just individuals of odd sizes.

Failing that, I get everything else from MSC Industrial Supply, they do good brands like Dormer, Ruko etc, and often have deals on.

Got a similar box of Erbaur bit from screwfix but masonary bits.
By far the best I've ever had and cheap too.

Worth thinking what you want to drill. I have a buddy known for destroying drills for fun and he splashed out on a set of dormers. I am amazed the abuse they put up with to be honest and wince every time he reaches for one but they are doing ok.

Personally I have bought a drill doctor and scavenge all the old bits thrown in a corner/floor and rough sharpen on a bench grinder and finish on the doctor. Old bits are far better quality than Chinese cheese.

The only thing extreme about the dewalt bits is how poor they are. Normally use dormer jobber bits but had some sheared off studs to drill out. 10.9 high tensile studs so off down to screwfix for what I thought would do the job. Started with a couple of 5mm drills, drilling slow with oil to lubricate blunted both before drilling 20mm deep. Screwfix very good and refunded with no question. Finished the job with the dormers.

i keep an orsy box of Wurth Hss drills here, i must of bought them ten yrs ago or more and there is 2/3 of them left yet, i bought another box of them a few months ago so i must like them but ive heard others that didnt like them for some reason.

i have Ruko here too and find them a good drill.
i have solid carbide drills here that will drill through the hardest of steels but they aint for a hand drill..

Lidl do a set in a metal box that show up on the special buys occasionally, for the price I find them unbeatable. I have a set I use most days and they perform as good on stainless steel that I usually work with as the Dormer,Presto, Ruko, Garant bits I use as well.

Their hss hole saws are pretty good too.
