UK Government announce 40% increase across the board in farm payments.

OK, so thats a fantasy headline.......
But what IF?
I have noticed that there are a couple of threads :)whistle:) dotted about the forum that talk of the effect of the likely reduction in UK farm sudsidies, what I'd like to hear from the usual suspects is what would you spend the dosh, or more accurately where would the dosh go, if the above headline was fact?
Ive got a secret list in front of me that guesses who the beneficiaries would really be, and if the truth be told that list is probably reflective of where todays subs end up, and understanding it would help with surviving the reduction in payments......

So, who's going to be first to suggest the consequences of a sudden influx of cash?

Fantasy headline, they have NOT increased UK farm support by anywhere near 40%...............

I have took a look at the rules of the much lauded stewardship scheme announced by Gove that opened for applications on Monday, aka the one where he states that ALL farmers can apply and will be accepted............

Well the claim that ALL farmers can apply for this scheme is a complete nonsense for starters when you read the small print.....................:rolleyes:

And even if you can enter if the rules are too tight and the payments wont cover the loss of income.
Have you read the op?

Finland, Austria, Switzerland. All countries with higher payments per hectare to their farmers yet are either in or trade freely with the EU. No reason we should always be bowing and scraping. 40% increase in direct payments would just land in the pocket of landlords or agents. 40% targetted increase in *investment* would see the equivalent of the 70s drainage revolution but in public goods - all farmers over 400ac would have a biobed for sprayer filling for example. These have strong benefits for low cost and could easily be funded by direct farmer grants.
