I have an r-tech cut 50 good for up to 12mm really anything above stick to bottles. Consumables are a rip off postage to Ireland. But other than that been good so far.

Just a little word of warning with cheep plasma cutters you pay for what you get, don't get me wrong they will cut steel in some sort of fashion for a while, then just out of warranty go bang, have had 3 do it and all not used much, now gone hypertherm, buy once cry once, sorry for the bad news.

Are they any better than oxy acetylene cutting torch? Why would I buy one if I already have oxy acetylene?

The only problem I have with oxy torch is blowing out when it hits a lump of rust or welding slag. Do plasma cutters cope any better?

Plasma is a serious tool for any kind of sheet metal work the speed and clean cut cannot be compared with oxy accetelyne. I've both anything up to 12mm plasma every time over that it's a head for the bottles job. Speaking of consumables rtech are a bit of a rip off for theirs. There does be the same looking ones on eBay for a quarter the price anyone ever try them?

Hey lads, only found this thread, and I have been thinking of buying one of these. Does the ampage of the machine determine the thickness of metal it can cut? Looking at Sealy cutters, as they have offers on at the minute. Any comments?

Please be aware that budget welders and plasma cutters are often made for car body work. They will weld or cut much heavier stuff but they won't do it all day. I worked for a welding equipment manufacturer where the boss offered a lifetime guarantee on transformers. He soon realised that customers who bought mini-migs to build narrow-boats were taking the pee.

I bought a Thermal dynamics one off weldsupplies on here, hasnt done a lot of work but its defo a workshop must have and good for taking off farm. I bought a hypertherm powermax 600 at an auction for 50 quid all it needed was a new torch its a fair tool.
