I am trying to find out where I can get some ewe nuts for my pure texels. I need them in bags as I only have a small flock, can anyone suggest where I might look. I've tried Mole Valley but none of theirs are suitable for texels, any suggestion greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing they just say that on the bag to cover their own arises. No sheep feed contains added copper but there are natural levels that occur in most feed products. Maybe you should ask to speak to their nutritionist?

Yes, the bags I looked at in Mole all said they were unsuitable for pure texels!
There always a warning on the ingredients list. Depends how much they will be fed ...what about the RS Super stock 16 nuts ?

Weve always had Texel about to a greater or lessor degree and never had trouble with feed.

All carrying twins.
On grass, add lib hay and a super energy bucket.
From my days selling compound feed, my pure texel customers would keep the ewes on this until a fortnight prelambing to avoid growing the lambs too much and getting difficult births. Then they would feed a high quality (13+ME, 18-19% protein, high DUP) compound and carry on feeding it for several weeks post lambing to drive milk yields. Most of these guys were Feb lambing in North Derbyshire, so good grass was pretty scarce.

You know what they say about feeding pures don’t you....give them plenty of water and a bit of hay....if they’re still hungry give them some more water
Agreed, don't give them too much,Texels are excellent converters and dont need the amount of concentrates as other breeds. My singles have a little haylage a day with no concentrates, double on excellent forage have a sniff and trebles a little more, less than half what we give to our com suffxmule ewes

trouble is with licks and blocks you dont actually know whos getting what.

where as with a compound fed in the way @Whitepeak describes you get to see how they feed. also keeps an important mins like Mg up as well.

I discussed feeding similar type sheep with a sheep nutritionist last week. A suggestion for singles was to feed straw and just a very small amount of soya (100g/day), to give the DUP to stimulate udder & colostrum, but without the energy to get big lambs and fat ewes. Then feed good quality concentrates after lambing to ramp the milk up.

Obviously not much chance of fostering a second one on, but getting a live lamb out without problems is the aim on that type of sheep.

Try this one, just had a load in, at the top, a complementary feeding stuff for pregnant and lactating ewes etc, at the bottom, Warning do not feed to sheep:banghead:, obviously there's a bit about naturally occurring levels of copper.

Do you feed anything after they've lambed, to keep the milk yield up?
Yes they go onto the same as the commercials then, starting at 1.5lb/day for twins tailing off as grass grows ( hopefully ) all off feed by end of April usually. Singles half that.
