how wide to leave between 2 sheds

how much room do you need to be able to turn say a 140hp tractor and 30ft trailer around, perhaps in 1 sweep and then how tight is it a bit less.

looking at putting a livestock building and straw/workshop up opposite each other creating a yard 50ft ish is looking a good width but will I be able to do a straight loop with trailer (26ft atm but will go bigger!)
we will be stacking silage bales at the end of the sheds so ideal to fetch a trailer twist 90 degrees then wrap and stack from it.

the drawing is to scale trailer is 26ft in the bed

Give yourself plenty of room .I recon you really need about half again gap to make it future proof once the shed is up its to late to say I wish it was bigger.

just seem to be taking a lot out of the field it wouldn't be that bad if we had to have an area at the end to turn in as the wide open yard is basically wasted unless I stacked bales up the middle and used the stack as a roundabout? but then you still need 30ft to access all along the front of the cattle shed

I was leeving them both so I could extend on the gable ends towards the silage stack.
big yard just felt a wasted space?
other option could be to drive completely around the smaller shed.

You will eventually be concreting the yard:eek:, so doing a loop round the shed might be more economic than having 1/2 acre slab basically doing nothing in the middle, you need a big enough T-bone to turn an artic whatever you do.
Have the straw down the prevailing wind of the cattle, because it would make containing a fire easier most days, heaven forbid.
For that reason alone I'd have the workshop away from the straw anyway, when the Gyppos cut their way in they will not worry about fire risk..

have a track around both sheds then just do a loop around when coming in with trailer, also handy to get down with forklift and man cage for cleaning out gutters or needing access to fix roof

I think the drive around the shed sounds a more economical idea rather than a big wasted area.

how wide does a sweep need to be for an artic to turn 90 degrees turning off a 20ft wide track, or how wide does the "end" road need to be if the "back" road is 20ft wide and the yard is only say 40ft

as for me calling the 1 barn straw and workshop, its really a straw barn with 1 end to park machinery in. I know there is the risk of fire for the machinery but you cant put sheds up everywhere. the machinery might live out a little until some straw is used to get the rest of the machinery in.

Before you building something ,could you put marker posts up to the measurements you have ,you would then see what space there is ,how tight it might be and if need be ,do a trial run with the T&T .
If you hit a marker stick ,you will know then where the pinch points are and could adjust the layout to suit

You can spin an artic really tight but you won’t get to the front bales as the tractor will be in the way at 90 degrees. I’m voting for perimeter conctrete.
