Whats the going rate for a self employed tractor driver?

I had someone to help with a couple of days tractor driving last week, he asked me for the work as he hasn't got much on, so thought I was ddoing him a good turn, I did mention there would be more work when it dries up again.
He's just sent his bill and he's £11/hr which I think is a bit steep, so might not be anymore work for him after all, or am I out of touch with rates?

Far too cheap.needs to be at least £15 an hour and probably a bit more.£3 dissapeared in tax straight away and as mentioned no holiday pay, sick pay or overtime.woukd you work for £11 an hour @Winklepicker .you should be ashamed thing it’s too steep.

Thanks Nick, i came on here thinking the price was a bit steep, he billed me for £11, i didn't knock him down from £15!
I have been corrected and accepted it.
...but for you to say i should be ashamed is a tad harsh i think,

I expect you know everything and don't need to ask for advice or guidance from here!

I know far from everything but farm wages have been shite for years and there are plenty of tractor drivers who go to drive diggers and earn £18 or more easily and firms are crying out fir them.can understand why self employed don’t want to drive tractors for silly money.its ridiculous putting someone on a very expensive machine and expecting them to be experts in all manor of operations and not paying a sensible rate.

I accept that.
The reason I asked was I have been 'out of the loop' regarding wages, especially for self emloyed guys, it came as a surprise to me, I came on here to clarify the matter.
He hasn't got much work on at the moment, so I let him do a couple of days as i'm behind too (and I'm grateful for!)
He billed me £11, I did not haggle him don from £15, i've paid him what he has asked for.
Now that this has been clarified, then I'm happy for him to do some more work

As agreed above that is a very low rate. Just out of interest, why didn't you discuss the rate before agreeing to take him on..?
You're right, it should have been clarified before he started, but he popped round one day and I was busy with the vet, so with me being behind with fieldwork and he wanting work I told him to come the following morning.

Anyway, all good and paid now
