Barley drilled in a trial area a few days ago has got 1cm roots on already. Don't want to be caught out. Doesn't solve the problem of small buried weeds which then re-emerge along with the crop making glyphosate timing tricky.

I thought the same, claydon drilled barley was breaking the surface after four days where a little shallow, second morning up at four thirty to get pre em on as it has glyphosate in the mix

A couple of litres of liquid 30% N liquid fert in the 2000 litre tank. Seems to acidify it. Grass weeds look very dead but rosebay willow herb doesn't. But I only used 2.5 litres glyphosate.

Put some nice Lidl's vinegar in the tank. I use one litre (35p) per 500 of water makes quite a difference especially on blw.
Vinegar also works on moss in your lawn. You can see the moss getting bleached within minutes.

PS. it does make you garden smell a bit for a while:whistle:

Whilst we are on the subject (sort of) had anyone had problems with the glyphosate brand Ardee XL? May as well have pee'd on the weeds and I have had to go round all the fields again with another brand (plus vinegar this time).

No more tallow... you will see this again and again. Ive seen it about several times now. The more you push the margins with glyphosate the more likely it will happen. And I believe it will be this that finally gives us glyphosate resistance in the UK.

That explains the weired pattern as some bits were affected more than others. The best control was from hot day application and worse from early morning. Maybe up the vinegar a bit

Used Gallup XL @ 2L/H + Firebrand @.5 applied as a fine spray in 200l of water On some ploughed land a month ago. dry but cold and we observed a mixed kill. Volunteer wheat plant still green while blackgrass next to it destroyed and visa versa. Resprayed before drilling and then another litre applied with pre em. Remaining ground sprayed a week ago with Gallup XL 360@ 3l/h +.5 l/h Firebrand and another litre applied pre em. Early indications seem to suggest a better job.

Spoke to Barclay guy and the batch of Gallup that we had has passed its Corona physical Ie all the constituents that should be in it are present and in the right quantity. I can have it tested independently if I want and they will pay for it. Will give it a week and see what kill we get.

Several people in this area are reporting the same problems with this particular product.

Agronomists are saying lack of tallow doesn't help.

Cold weather and poor growth probably a factor.

In future will use a min of 3l/h and stick in LI700 or Spraymack and drop Firebrand.

Heyho you live and learn!
