Welding mild steel to a disc harrow disc

As per title, using an arc welder, can I weld box section to a disc? If so, what rods should I use. Doesn’t need to be super strong, it’s just a base so the disc can sit above the ground horizontally. Cheers.

As an aside: I've heard or maybe read on here that the way to drill one is to put a decent sized nail in a pillar drill and give it some until the disc glows red. Let it cool naturally and it will be soft enough in that area to drill with a standard drill.

It’s a fire pit, got 10 to make. I don’t have a mig welder, just want to cheaply make a bases to keep the disks of the ground. In fact, I’ll probably just make square frames and just sit the the discs on them.

Am I the only one here who would nave just welded it with the normal mig or standard general purpose rods without even giving it a thought???
All this different rod numbers, mixes, disimilar rods, making me feel a bit of an amateur!!!!
I own 5 welders and have been welding stuff for near 40 years and I am still learning but keep it simple guys ! !

Yes, ordinary rods when we found out the application.
But the first post led me to believe it was for a disc harrow that was going to be used again in anger and possibly for a customer. So I put the belt and braces on from the start ............

Obviously I didn't read the original post properly .............
