Menitioned to dad about an FE35 would look nice around the yard and he told me that when we got a new FE35 it arrived on the farm on a Friday and on Sunday morning Granda tried to take the milk out to the road and it wouldn't start.

Why do people call them gold, when it was Light Copper paint?

Well many farmers I've met haven't got the time or the inclination to use three syllables where one will do the job... :p

Whatever the reason it seems to have caught on worldwide, though I did read that in South Africa it is often referred to as Koperpens (Copperbelly) and I have seen and heard the English equivalent used here too.

In sunlight it looks more gold than copper to me , I must say.

Dexta transmissions - never heard there were two speed types like the old Fordson Standards, and most unlikely there would ever have been, so I think we can assume no.

I have heard a story where Harry Ferguson could not decide what colour for his tractor and his wife was wearing a gold coloured dress so he decided on that colour

it might be just, but i tend to think, there is some restored ones, that has to bright a gold on them,
from what I remember from years ago, it was more of a dull copper / bronze than gold,
and I dont like the stark bright gold on some of todays paint jobs,
it may of been gold but more of a satin / matt finish than a gloss,

anyone have any thoughts on this

There must have been two speed boxes fitted as there were a few dextas around here and some were faster than others and it wasn't just when the governor diaphragm went either, you could get a mile an hour or so faster by removing the ait intake snorkel.
