Not for match ploughing, just a bit at home...

DB General Purpose Bodies, set at 12ins, in stiff grassland...

Would my 16.9/34's be too wide for the job?

Just wondering if anyone had managed this, I suspect they are, but thought I'd ask!

Measure the open furrow, usually about 11/12". with boards unstressed. Thats the widest tyre that will work properly. Oh , and match ploughing is only ploughing done properly, even at home it will have better weed control and seed bed than bad!

I fear you will end up with a mess. You cannot run on 4-5" of turned furrow then try to cover up and fill the trough with your 12" of soil from the next front furrow..The result will be very uneven and on grassland the subsequent seedbed preparation needs to be minimal to avoid bringing up buried turf. You will have a bigger problem than you started with.

I haven't tried my general purpose bodies yet but 16.9s don't work with semi diggers which look as if they'd leave a wider furrow, even the 13.6s are a bit wide for those.

My super hydrein KV leaves an 11"/12" open furrow, In fact much the same as all the other ploughs I have come in contact with, must be to do with the draught requirements versus the need to roll the furrow in.

I used 13.6x36 wheels on 996 and cm3 with ransomes tcn bodies with no bother, once tried with 16.9 x30 and did tend to pair it
