Harder 750a discs

That's a massive shame. If they had the same profile as original then they would be perfect.
Wonder if the extra hardness compensates for the reduced life by the smaller bevel?
I think it’d be the other way round. The longer the bevel inherently would mean the quicker wear as the thinner part of the disc will wear away faster. The trouble with the apm ones would be the bevel isn’t as sharp and you wouldn’t know if the extra life comes from harder steel or the fact the disc is effectively thicker because of the smaller bevel.

But once the bevel is gone the disc is junk though.

APM say their new disk is harder and the bevil now the same as OE JD discs

going to give them a go, price difference is too wide to ignore

apparently so if they guy we ordered from is to be believed - just ordered a set so will let you know when they turn up, won't be happy if bevil isn't OE dims

APM bottom, Spaldings top, Agrilinc right, John Deere left.

Will try them all simultaneously in next batch this summer / autumn as changing pre harvest.

Just checked my discs on the drill today. They have just about worn the bevel up so need a new set. Original set on my 4m did 1000acs but this second set from a jd stock order last year have only done 800 acs.

Good afternoon all. I am one of the Area Managers at APM. Wanted to confirm that our latest batch of discs that we received just a few weeks ago has come in with a 14mm bevel, although we wanted them to be in 18mm. Very frustrating, especially as our drawings had been amended for our manufacturers, to show 18mm, following some help & feedback from several farmers. We have some of the 14mm bevel discs out on farm for trial this autumn, and we will see how they go. Very aware that with the bevel being shallower, they will likely blunt quicker than original, as has already been noted on this thread, but we want to see anyhow.

The metal that these discs are made of is a high carbon content metal, and this has been proven to work well for discs for other machines. So we are very hopeful that the John Deere disc will be the same!

Our next batch of stock of these discs will be coming with the 18mm bevel, and in the higher carbon content metal. But this may well be late autumn, or even next spring now. We will want to get these trialled as soon as they arrive, as a true alternative to the original disc.

Price wise, we expect to be able to sell the 18mm bevel disc at pretty much the same as the 14mm verison we now have, which is early to mid £20's, depending on the volume you require.

Watch this space, we will keep everyone posted with how things are going!

Doesn’t a high carbon steel that is 55 HRC become to brittle? I appreciate that high carbon tool steels can be even harder than this but as hardness increases so does its brittleness. It ought to be pointed out that the JD standard for these discs is some thirty pages long. I am under no illusion’s that I face a firing squad at dawn if I reveal it’s contents but I think it’s worth pointing out that hardness alone isn’t the only criteria important when manufacturing or buying these discs.
