Need to get my spring oats rolled again. Given the dryness and the heat, do you reckon there it would be best to do later in the evening when cooler? Will bashing the crop in this heat actually make it sadder?
Yes to evening. Wouldn’t be brave enough to do it in the heat of the day at the moment.

No. But it is supposed to look like crap now. As long as you have the plants it will go mental fairly soon. That said, I rolled wheat with canary volunteers in and they didn't mind.

Thanks. Inexperienced farmer and virgin crop roller. Just worried the plants in the wheelings. Got 650/65r38s. No duals.

BTW. Never seen anyone roll post em over here.
I did mine with duals but still better rolled with singles than unrolled. Crop immediately looked better afterwards. Also beneficial for weed control. Break down all the clods and encourage germination before applying the contact herbicide.

Doing a few fields not rolled after drilling now. Partly to push the stones in but it will help it tiller more, mineralise more N and create another flush of weeds to take out in a couple of weeks when we do the T1 and herbicides.
