probably the best there is re one car, fascinating read if you ever get laid up :D:D.. Knackered Navara forun was amateurish by comparison i thought at the time

appears they were mostly ok when built in Romania, new type of high strength thin steel used, maybe some clues to the pickups chassis woes.
assembly of RHD dusters went out India ? and unpainted panels took badly to a sea journey

It's a shame that Fiat didn't carry on with their panda 4x4. Steyr Puch are no longer in business which is a shame so this isn't possible now.
I'd look at PCP on a Duster & if you like it after 3 years what's to stop you buying one then? Three years goes very quickly you know.

PCP is what we are looking at, and it's £200 a month less than the Xtrail. The safety aspect is a bit off putting though

I drove a hired one the other day and after I got over the initial shock of having to drive one back from Stanlow, I came away pleasantly surprised. It had all the normal toys, sat nav, dab radio, air con etc and an auto gearbox that was actually not too bad. I didn’t think the Diesel engine sounded too rough either. I just made sure I never caught my reflection on a shop window cos boy, is it ugly!! I did think after 3.5 hours of driving the seat could of had a little more lumber support for my liking, but all in all, for the price of them I was quite impressed......
Think I’ll stick with my Alfa though;)

Spent ten minutes looking on t'internet. Renault & Nissan parts. 4 out of 5 star rating. Sounds like most other motors. All have their faults as have been written about many times on this forum. Sounds like the purrrrfect motor to have on a PCP. Cheap as chips, no frills, drive it like you stole it. What's to not like! Go for it(y)
I don't give a sh1t if i'm in my Skoda, It gets me to where I need to be in a very average way. I'd probably feel the same in a Duster.:) & with the 4x4 option I could cross a field or three.

My father in law has a dacia something but i couldnt tell you what it is. Hes a mechanic and no fool when it comes to cars and he really rates it at the price he paid.
Have a look at some of the korean offerings as well ive got a little 05 plate hyundai car that gets used and abused quite a lot and it goes really well very impressed with it for something we bought as a stopgap car after the last one broke down and couldnt really afford anyrhing "better" at the time. That was 7 years ago now  not had anything but filters tyres and brake pads in all that time and has done well over 100k miles (y)

@JP1 Yes the Duck is correct. A Haflinger. Powered by a flat twin 700cc air cooled engine in the rear (Like a 2CV engine). Diff locks on front & rear axles, 5 speed with a very low 1st. Portal drive on each corner for max ground clearance. The Pinzgauer is much bigger & bigger still, the Unimog.
@Cowabunga I know the Raleigh chopper is often up in the rafters of 'collectors' garages. I wonder how many Steyr Puch choppers are still about & if these are reaching similar prices at auctions? I have an inkling that the SP may tip the Raleigh being more unusual! I've never seen one so there y'go:)

As fellow Skoda drivers, we were thinking we'd probably end up with a Yeti in a few years when the farm is cashed in, but we still feel like helping out at the local show and looking over fences while taking the dogs for a walk. They have that sort of feel to them.
I have no problems driving our Skodas, they are excellent. When I was looking for my estate, I saw an Octavia being serviced in the local garage and it was a taxi from Bournemouth. I believe it had done 450,000 miles in 6 years or so and they said it was not unusual to have those sort of miles.
As for the Duster, I don't know how it compares to the Yeti, but I'm guessing Skodas are no longer in the Sk100 bargain bucket category of the 1970s.

Skodas are perfectly good vehicles now and are largely from the VAG parts bin. Seat are the same. Why you would pay more for a VW Ihave no idea

I had a mate at school who started driving and bought a string of hotted up Minis that he wrecked in quick succession, until finally he borrowed his mum's new Citroen -which met a nasty end up the front of one of our tractors on the main road, funnily enough.
His parents had had enough so they told him they would pay for a nice modern car for him but they would choose it, and of course when it arrived it was a calf-scour coloured Skoda 100. He never lived it down, but it didn't help his driving as he ended up rolling it down a hill in the middle of Dorset. He went on to have a long and safe career as an HGV driver...:)
