KUHN MOWERS AND RAKES ON DISPLAY AT GRASSLAND AND MUCK ‘17

KUHN Farm Machinery will be displaying a wide selection of hay and silage making equipment at this year’s Grassland and Muck event, with key machines at the show on 24th and 25th May including the FC 3160 TCD RA centre-pivot trailed mower conditioner with grouper functionality, the GA 13131 four rotor grass rake, and the GMD range of disc mowers.

FC 3160 TCD RA – mower conditioner with grouper function
thumbnail_FC 3160 TCD RA %40300.jpg

Ideally suited to large-scale farming operations and grassland contractors, the FC 3160 TCD RA offers all the key advantages associated with KUHN’s standard centre pivot mower conditioner (the FC 3160 TCD), such as greater mowing versatility and reduced ‘dead time’ on headlands, as well as having the ability to group two swathes of grass together.

The FC 3160 TCD RA uses a conveyor belt grouper unit that enables two rows of grass to be placed together to form a twin swath for increased output of the subsequent forage harvester. The conveyor also enables two rows of grass to be formed into a single, layered swath that can be picked up by balers or loader wagons with a narrower pick-up width.

The addition of a belt conveyor saves time and fuel by reducing the number of subsequent passes needed with a grass rake or forage harvester. It also reduces leaf losses and prevents soil or foreign materials being incorporated into the swath during raking.

The hydraulically driven grouper belt is powered by a pump mounted on the machine’s GYRODINE swivelling headstock and can deliver the cut and conditioned crop to either side of the machine. The speed of the conveyor belt can be instantly increased or decreased to take into account the amount of crop being cut or to alter the width of the finished swath when working on sloping terrain.

The FC 3160 TCD RA uses seven cutting discs (each fitted with KUHN’s FAST-FIT knives as standard) giving it a 3.1 metre working width and a 2.99 metre travelling width. The speed of the steel finger conditioning flails can be set at either 780 or 1,000 rpm according to the crop being worked.

All functions – such as belt speed, direction of delivery and lifting options – can be adjusted from the comfort of the tractor cab via a central control box. The FC 3160 TCD RA is also fitted with wide profile, low-pressure tyres for reduced soil compaction and improved performance on sloping ground.

GA 13131 – four rotor grass rake
thumbnail_GA 13131 %40300.jpg

The GA 13131 Gyrorake has a working width of 8.4 to 12.50 metres and is designed for use on farms where a high work output is required. The machine features four rotors, the front hold 11 tine arms and the rear hold 12 per rotor, each with four tines per arm.

Each rotor is mounted on four pivoting, large diameter wheels for excellent ground contouring and high load bearing. The wheels sit close to the tines to further improve ground following, while Kuhn’s three-dimensional rotor suspension system provides even greater stability when working at high speeds.

Rotor working height can be adjusted hydraulically as standard, with all four rotors powered by Kuhn’s headstock-mounted hydraulic drive unit which gives the option to increase front rotor speed by up to 20% when working in lighter crops.

The four rotors work together to create one perfectly formed central windrow (from 140 to 240 cm in width) and are controlled via a cab-mounted VT50 series terminal which is ISOBUS compatible and which allows operating sequences to be pre-programmed for easy u-turns. Each rotor can be lifted individually for a perfect finish and to give the machine higher ground clearance for ease of manoeuvring and unhindered travel across uneven terrain.

The GA 13131 is characteristically robust and utilises Kuhn’s Masterdrive GIII gearbox to reduce power transfer stresses and provide reliable service with low maintenance: the Masterdrive’s patented two-stage design uses bevel and spur gear reduction and is totally enclosed for minimal maintenance – service intervals are every 200 hours.

The GA 13131 requires a minimum PTO power output of 95hp. When in transport position, it stands at less than 4 metres in height, folding to 3 metres in width, making roadwork easy and safe.

KUHN GMD Disc Mower – celebrating 50 years
thumbnail_GMD 3511 and GMD 3125 F %40300.jpg

2017 marks the 50th anniversary since the first Kuhn GMD disc mower was launched. Kuhn will be commemorating this by displaying an original GMD 4 at Grassland and Muck. The model to be displayed was built in 1969 and was in constant use until 12 months ago when it was finally retired. The machine has recently been acquired by Kuhn in France and is destined to become a key feature of the company’s museum collection.

The latest generation of GMD machines (available in working widths ranging from 2.6 to 5.2 metres) offers many of the same benefits as the original machine: an entry-level, affordable and efficient machine which can produce the highest quality forage, with added features including Kuhn’s LIFT-CONTROL and PROTECTADRIVE systems.

The LIFT-CONTROL suspension and non-stop safety system ensures excellent ground contouring along with a 31-degree range of travel which maintains a consistent mowing height, even at high forward operating speeds. It also ensures the machine’s mechanical components are protected against impacts whilst operating on uneven ground by reducing ground pressure and allowing the mower to pivot away from obstacles by up to 25 degrees while also lifting clear of obstructions.

The PROTECTADRIVE safety system adds a further element of safety by protecting the OPTIDISC cutter bar’s internal components, which include Kuhn’s FAST-FIT knives, from impact damage. In the event of a violent impact between a disc and an obstacle, the shaft holding the disc will shear just above the bearing, thanks to a carefully dimensioned shear groove, thereby protecting the disc’s moving parts. The shaft can subsequently be replaced in less than 15 minutes, reducing downtime and expensive repair bills.

The GMD is also available in an RS version which delivers the forage into a narrow swath to avoid running over cut grass.

UPGRADED KUHN SPRAYER DELIVERS SIMPLE, RELIABLE AND SAFE CROP PROTECTION

KUHN Farm Machinery will be displaying a range of cultivation and crop protection machinery at this year’s Royal Highland Show, including its recently upgraded mounted sprayer.

thumbnail_DELTIS 2 c %40300.jpg
KUHN’s new DELTIS 2 sprayer has been designed for mixed farming enterprises and small-scale arable operations where ease of use, safety and reliability are key. The new machine features a number of upgrades including a robust and lightweight chassis which makes the DELTIS 2 one of the lightest mounted sprayers on the market.

A new 1,300 litre tank with a double-slope deep sump improves performance on steeply sloping terrain, and makes emptying and rinsing the tank easier than on previous models.

Two new sets of controls are available: the manually operated MANUSET system which uses two steering wheel type valves, or the electronically controlled DILUSET+ system which allows operators to control the sprayer’s main spraying and flushing functions from the comfort of the tractor cab.

The DELTIS 2 is available with steel (MTS2) or aluminium (MTA2, MTA3, MEA3) booms in widths ranging from 15 to 24 metres. Whichever boom is selected, the new sprayer uses KUHN’s OPTILIFT suspension system: the side folding booms are mounted on a parallelogram lift system which ensures perfect vertical stability during spraying whilst also allowing the boom to float during road transportation.

The DELTIS 2 also uses a new chemical incorporation system: the OPTIFILLER is made of a long-lasting, chemical resistant material and features a wide-necked filling port for ease of use. The induction bowl is capable of holding up to 42 litres and is operated via foot controls so that the operator does not need to bend down towards the incorporator when full of chemicals.

The whole OPTIFILLER system sits within the confines of the sprayer’s chassis for added protection and folds out for easier operator access during the filling process. A hand-held lance, which makes rinsing quick and easy to achieve, is fitted as standard.

KUHN MOWER BLADES NOW LAST 5 TIMES LONGER

KUHN Farm Machinery has added a new set of long-life blades to its range of OPTIDISC mower and mower conditioner cutting blades.

The new “Triple 5” blades are 5mm thick and have a 55mm cutting width, as opposed to the standard KUHN blades which are 4mm thick and have a 46mm cutting width.

The new blades also feature a double-bevelled edge on the underside to facilitate self-sharpening, and are compatible with all bolt attachment or FAST-FIT versions of KUHN‘s OPTIDISC cutter bars manufactured since the end of 2011.

Tests carried out around the world have shown that the new Triple 5 blades last up to 4 or 5 times longer than standard knives due to their excellent anti-abrasive quality and high resistance to deformation.

Upgrading to the new blades enables operators to maximise mowing capacity during favourable weather windows as stoppages for maintenance or blade replacement are reduced. The new blades also produce a cleaner cut thanks to their self-sharpening design.

Triple 5 blades are available in packs of 20 at a recommended retail price of £2.49 each (standard blades are available in packs of 24 at £1.02 RRP).

NEW RANGE OF PRECISION ORCHARD SPRAYERS FROM KUHN

KUHN Farm Machinery has launched a new range of precision orchard and vineyard air-blast sprayers as part of its Amenity Pro horticultural equipment range.

The OKTOPUS sprayer range features four mounted and three trailed machines with tank sizes of 300, 400 or 600 litres for the mounted models and 1000 or 1500 litres for the trailed variants.

All seven models use an air-blast dispersion system which accurately regulates the size of spray droplets and enables precise and targeted application of crop protection products: a powerful centrifugal turbine (430mm or 450mm diameter) feeds air into a series of (6, 8 or 10) outlet spouts, each of which feeds an interchangeable, double flip-over nozzle where spray droplets are formed. Each nozzle is mounted on a pivoting holder which enables chemical application and foliage penetration to be precisely controlled. Each individual nozzle holder can also be adjusted horizontally and vertically to enable even greater application precision.

The mounted machines are equipped with a plastic mixing sieve for the incorporation of liquid or powder crop protection products, while the trailed machines are fitted with a stainless-steel mixing sieve. An optional bottle rinser can be specified.

Spray shut-off is controlled by fast-acting anti-drip diaphragm valves which are fitted to each nozzle holder to prevent chemical wastage: the mounted machines are equipped with DPM regulation with manual pressure setting and electric cut-off of the left and right sections; the trailed versions are supplied as standard with DPME regulation with electric in-cab adjustment and electric cut-off.

A narrow version of the mounted machine – the OKTOPUS S – is also available for work in tight plantation rows: the spray outlets on these machines are positioned more centrally to provide sufficient clearance for the nozzles to spray accurately.

The trailed machines are available with a pivoting drawbar which reduces the turning radius for easier maneuvering on short headlands.

New VARI-MASTER on-land mounted plough range from KUHN

KUHN’s range of mounted ploughs has been extended with the addition of the VARI-MASTER L series of on-land ploughs. Available in 4, 5 or 6 plough body versions, the new range is designed for use with 200 to 300hp tractors and is compatible with tracked tractors or those equipped with wide flotation tyres, thereby helping to reduce the effects of soil compaction.

KUHN VARI-MASTER L @300.jpg

The VARI-MASTER L’s on-land design reduces the effects of drift caused by a change in offset or when working in-furrow: the plough always remains perfectly aligned with the direction of travel, not only ensuring greater ploughing accuracy, but also reducing fuel consumption and wear and tear.

The new ploughs feature manually adjustable skimmers which enable easy, tool-free set-up and adjustment of each individual skimmer to ensure total furrow closure and improved residue burial. Each skimmer is sheath mounted to reduce the risk of the skimmer being twisted out of alignment and can be adjusted in three dimensions for complete control. A shear-bolt safety system – which breaks at a force of 1800kg – protects each skimmer leg in the event of the skimmer coming into contact with an immovable object.

skimmer adjustment @300.jpg

Each of the four models within the VARI-MASTER L range is equipped as standard with hydraulic front furrow adjustment and can be specified with hydraulic depth adjustment. Each model also features KUHN’s NSH (Non-Stop Hydraulic) safety system as standard: this auto-reset protection system can be upgraded with the addition of KUHN’s Varibar and Maxibar systems which enable share point release pressure to be adjusted on-the-go.

A range of skimmer and deflector options are available enabling users to customise their plough according to soil type and cropping conditions. Forged and heat treated points and bodies ensure exceptional wear resistance and longevity, with tungsten carbide tipped points and shares also available to further extend the service life of these key wearing parts and to reduce the amount of maintenance required.

KUHN SUPERSIZES ITS RANGE OF GRASS RAKES

KUHN Farm Machinery has super-sized its range of grass rakes with the addition of a 15 metre trailed version of its popular GA Gyrorake.

The GA 15131 is the largest in KUHN’s range of four-rotor grass rakes, offering a variable working width of between 9.50 and 14.70 metres. The brand new trailed machine adds to the existing GA range which also includes a 13 metre trailed model, the GA 13131 and two semi-mounted machines, the GA 8731 (7.70 to 8.60m working width) and GA 9531 (8.40 to 9.30m working width) machines.

The GA 15131 is designed for use on farms where a high work output is required and features four rotors. The front two rotors are fitted with 13 tine arms, while the rearward rotors are equipped with 15 tine arms – all are fitted with four tines per arm.

Each rotor is mounted on four pivoting, large diameter wheels for excellent ground contouring and high load bearing. The wheels sit close to the tines to further improve ground following, while KUHN’s three dimensional rotor suspension system provides even greater stability when working at high speeds.

Rotor working height can be adjusted hydraulically as standard, with all four rotors powered by KUHN’s headstock-mounted hydraulic drive unit which gives the option to increase front rotor speed by up to 20% when working in lighter crops.

The four rotors work together to create one perfectly formed central windrow (from 140 to 250cm in width) and are controlled via a cab-mounted VT50 series terminal which is ISOBUS compatible and which allows operating sequences to be pre-programmed for easy u-turns. Each rotor can be lifted individually for a perfect finish and to give the machine high ground clearance for ease of manoeuvring and unhindered travel across uneven terrain.

The GA 15131 is characteristically robust and utilises Kuhn’s Masterdrive GIII gearbox to reduce power transfer stresses and provide reliable service with low maintenance: the Masterdrive’s patented two-stage design uses bevel and spur gear reduction and is totally enclosed for minimal maintenance – service intervals are every 200 hours.

The new rake requires a minimum tractor PTO power output of 115hp. It stands at 4 metres in height and folds to just 3 metres in width when fully folded, making road transportation easy and safe.

“Early users of the new machine have reported some fantastic working rates, with operators able to work at up to 4km/h faster compared to similar machines from other marques,” explains Duncan McLeish, KUHN’s UK Sales Manager. “The GA’s variable speed functionality allows the front pair of rotors to rotate 20% faster than the rear rotors, which not only makes for a cleaner swath but also allows rapid working rates in the heaviest of crops. For large scale farming operations and busy contractors, that is a huge benefit and one of which we are deservedly proud.”
I’ve had a 15131 rake for 3 years and have found all of the problems Kuhn doesn’t seem to recognise there problems. And along with an extremely poor west wales dealer has left me very disappointed with the machine!
