Rotaseeder

Anyone got any pictures of any crops they have drilled with a rotaseeder? Looking at selling the plough and going this route instead.

Many thanks

Put a powerharrow on some uncropped land today just to level it up and it wouldn’t go in the ground! It’s rock hard!

yer would want it a tad bigger if doing bigger areas
it's kinda what I was thinking. used to have a pack top. power harrow years ago. it was OK not flash tho in harder ground. but find a rotospike. a lot better in harder ground
something like that with a airseeder on it. would have a OK output. a day
Maybe in the right dirt and condition

looks like a copy of the Rotavator in the late 70's. Just lacking a little versatility. Howard had the option of either placing the seed in front or the back of the Rotavator.
once more: nothing new under the sun

Ive seen decent grass take (shortterm ley) from it and one pass has its appeal. (more robust than powerharrow for the same use)

but then ground after ended up not really that level when the soil settled, after awhile for a medium o r longer term ley or cutting .

also seen green / catch crop sown after w barley had too much volunteer barley smothering the rape/kale (so much disturbance and no deep burying effect) in it all though that was part the fault of the the combine / season chucking / blowing way too much out the back.

I also know of some one who mounted a box drill on the back of a wide rotavator(instead of a powerharrow) as one pass but used on ploughed ground only.

Local guy has one and puts roots in with it. I do the spraying so yes, after round up.
Need to roll after as headlands always grow better due to being tighter ??
For grass reseeds, well yes its quicker and maybe slightly cheaper but I don t rate it myself. As above, surface looks good but it then slumps/ settles and you end up with a rough ride. If your going to buy one, then my advice is don t ! Expensive to buy, eats metal especially if stony and even though my mates has so called 300 hp gearboxes , even though he only has 165 hp, regular problems with them and they are dear. He has the same machine as in photo above from Bury the Trash [ Devon supplier}

Blimey Howard used to make one centuries ago. A rotovator with tines that dug a furrow and conventional seed box on top. Almost bought one a few years ago on eBay.
I can tell you that they would need no more than 60hp as Ford 5000 and MF165's were the biggies in those days.

Anyone put kale into grassland that had been round-up’d using roto seeder?
We do a fair bit now of this with the Claydon drill. Most important is to give the grass enough of a kill so it doesnt out compete the kale. This was planted 27 May as an example. Put kestrel in nearer home for dry cow outwintering and that's a good crop apparently if wanted to see some
