How would you cope with another summer of 76 ?

Grabbing all the hay fields we can around here
We used to have a 4 acre patch ( down the road , had new owners !!! that didnt get cut at all last yr ,and I have been offered it - not sure if its worth it but at least we could chop the hay for bedding if its dead dry )

We have been quite lucky here in west wales and have had rain showers most weeks and from friday until wednesday afternoon was very damp and raining on wednesday. This has pushd grass growth niceley. And compared to the wet summers of late, I have been enjoying these perfect grazing conditions since start of may. 3rd cut that was cut June 3rd is coming along niceley had slurry and 50units N and a wash in within 4days of cutting.

And I am starting 4th round of grazing tomorrow and the grass quality is keeping good so far. This is a PRAG hi D lay sown in 2009

So compared to the mud bath and on off grazing and just crap weather we have had to endure for a long time. This is nice. However by next weekend if the heat of the forecasts arrive grass will burn up on my banks.

This is a thread about drought not about how much rain you have had

No 3rd cut. 1st was Early may bank holiday. 2nd on June 3rd and hope next cut in 10days ish. However on a wet year we are struggling and taking heavy silage cuts in 2day windows. And cows only out grazing for 3 hours at a time and back in to avoid fields turning to mud. Dry year suits us. So far!!

If we were to get summer drought after summer drought I could see us going to the Canadian style of forage production. !st cut lucerne for the milkers, bale any other cuts you might get for youngstock/drys, DD barley silage and strip till maize.

Sorry your original post , to me, read as if you had cut your 3rd ,10 days ago
My 3rd cut is growing very slowly , but looking more like being grazed than cut unfortunately
