travellers? and they wonder why people hate them

I have never had any trouble with travellers. I must be lucky. I have sympathy for those who are having problems.

The gypsies laid the Tarmac on our farm road and it has lasted 30 years. They spray and chip it every few years. I worked on the tar spraying and chipping with them to keep an eye on things and make sure they have some mugs of tea etc and the price is always reasonable and as previously agreed. A lot are just trying to earn a crust like we all are. Some are out and out criminals who ruin it for the rest. They can be loud rough characters but they arent all bad. They do have their own set of rules and values but a lot relies on physical strength and macho culture. A woman's place is in the home.

Be careful not to tar them all with the same brush. Otherwise we could quickly go down the 1930s Nazi Germany route and nobody wants that.

I do fully appreciate though the utter frustration at the seemingly powerlessness of the police to tackle the criminal element. Even my local gypsies were worried their kit would be stolen by that crowd.
I find myself having a deal with one or two a year and find them very good as well, i get on well with them better than alot of non gypos funnily enough.

Yes good and bad everywhere but will and can shaft you any time too alledgely ?

Some are better than others. If they call here and I don't know them I will have a frank discussion with them about how we aren't flash rich and can't afford to lose the kit we have. I am civil and reasonable with them. They don't leave with a bad feeling. Courtesy costs nothing. You have to be firm though and I wouldn't be overly trusting. Don't look like a pushover.

I think the police could be a bit more proactive, but they aren't backed up by the judiciary. Members of the traveling community don't like the criminals amongst them any more than we do.

It's a failure of policing and the judiciary as much as anything, and of course pussy footing bleeding heart liberals.

This poor sodlooks like he's getting a bollocking for telling it as it is.

A spokesperson for charity Friends, Families and Travellers, which "seeks to end racism and discrimination against Gypsies, travellers and Roma", said it was "disgusted" by Mr Bird's comments which were filled with "hate and based upon generalisations".

Phien O'Reachtagian, chairman of the Gypsy and Traveller Coalition, said previously: "His suggestion that communities are lawless is cause for concern from someone in his position.

"We'd be looking to make a formal complaint and liaise with police to see if a crime has been committed."

Do you have no problems when Appleby fair is on? They were horrendous if the paper is anything to go by and certinaly upset more people than I can ever remember. But of course it’s no ones problem and only 12 arrests as our crime commissioner told us .

Well listening to radio LBC Nick Ferrari talking about a so called traveler invasion of Cobham in leafy Surrey, the mess and vandalism, shoplifting and tapping into the water in a clubhouse on a cricket pitch to make a water feature, and the pathetic police response when the local residents in their hour of need, ask the police for help, I'm of the opinion that if something doesn't change, lets have a revolution, don't pay your taxes, don't pay council tax, join the other crowd it pays better and you have more fun?

for what its worth, i think the people of Cobham have a very strong case against the chief constable for fraud.
he has entered a contract with the council tax payers to keep order and to protect their rights to live in peace.
and protect them from bad behaviour without fear or favor, in return he is given powers and is paid for using them
he is clearly not fufilling his part of the contract, this is fraud by any stretch of imagination.

Somehow, quite a few of the Caravan Utilising Nomadic Traveling Society managed to get into the Linc's a Steam Rally this weekend.

Transit tippers riding about anyhow, saw two teenagers fighting this morning, trade stand holders having to watch for diversion tactics as others stole stuff, noise and shouting in the early hours.

Several long time exhibitors went home early yesterday, with many more getting bugger all sleep, and saying they're not coming next time if the Gypsies get in again.

Apparently, some have managed to join the caravan club to gain access !!!

Spoilt a good event that a lot of people put a lot of effort into organising.
