Drawbar weights

My main ploughing tractor can be alittle short on grip sometimes when it gets abit sloppy wheel weights look very difficult to find as it's a 1974 model so I was thinking of attaching weights to the drawbar but not sure how to go about it. Has anybody else done this and did it work?

Put water in the tyres
Just ask a friendly dairy farmer if you can put a pipe from milk machine cluster to valve suck all air out and slap a hose on
it fills quiet quick and puts the weight where it needs to be

Need the weight on the back end as it's only 2 wheel drive with manual steering which is heavy enough as it is without adding more front end weight got just enough on the weight tray to keep the wheels on the ground with the plough in the air. Did think about water but it's not got the best tires in the world and having the weight easy to remove is handy for when I'm not on the plough and don't want to cut in too much. Looked at wheel weights but not easy to track down a matching pair without spending silly money I've got a few old belarus weights kicking around so thought I could add them to the drawbar somehow.

Why not attach them to your wheels or are they not belarus wheel weights will you have enough room between plough and tractor i no i dont have any room to leave my drawbar on or is it a drawbar ploughtry and load up pics off plough weights and tractor so we can work out

Can't you get a bit more lead on the plough. I always thought ploughing was one of the jobs where it was easy to control the weight on the back wheels?

If I add anymore to the plough the old David Brown won't lift it. Ive got some belarus front weights kicking around. There is room between the drawbar and the plough as I can leave it as long drawbar if I want to. You'd think there would be enough weight but she still spins both wheels with the diff lock in.

Have you tried to set your draught to take a bit of weight off the land wheel? You can also shorten the top link to give you more lead. I'm sure one of the plough men @ploughman1963 etc will be able to give better advice. It's not about adding more weight it's about using the weight and the downforce that your plough can give you. You should be able to set her up so your front wheels are skipping when you're ploughing.

Haven't got a land wheel and the top link is set so it runs level. It's ploughing nicely and making a good job with even furrows and we'll buried trash. Depth control is working well too.

Is that on draught control? Not that it should make that much difference. I just find it hard to understand why you can't get enough weight on your back wheels with a plough on. We have pulled 6 furrows semi mounted at 12inch for potatoes without any extra weight on the rear axle.

if the ground is flat position control will work well and transfer the weight you need.
for easy weights, take wheel off , lay flat on ground and use as mold to cast concrete for cheap,
or lead if you need a lot of weight.

i do like your idea for the hitch though,.
a long beam hung off the front with a ring to engage the pickup hitck, the pickup is supposed to be rated at 3000 K, so plenty for your purposes, just add what you need and easy to pick up or drop off.
what a beautifull elegant solution, i take my hat off to you sir.
