“Off topic” threads not showing up in “New Posts”

It was due to the amount of non farming content in off-topic and the sheer amount of content diluting the farming threads in new posts. That's not to say we can't look at this again.

Thank you. A helpful explanation.

At the very least it might be worth (if possible) putting a small explanation on the "New Posts" page saying that items from the OT forum are excluded. There may be other members like me who use New Posts and are unaware of this and don't check OT regularly. Nowadays I usually tend to read my alerts, and then go exploring via New Posts rather than browsing the individual forums.

We don't have that level of control on that actual page (which means I have no idea how to do that - sorry). There are quite a few forums that don't show in new posts. This one for instance, also the dating one and the shooting one are three I can think of off the top of my head.

Remember, while you use New Posts, a lot of people just read the forums they are interested in. If you "watch" the Off Topic section then you will get alerts for new threads started there.

We will put it on the update list for when we move to XF2 software platform for the forum. We are planning to do that in 2019 and it will help navigation around the forum and offer a host of other features.

Not sure
I had noticed the same and I wouldnt mind if off topic posts showed up in new posts, it seems to be the same old threads that are popular and show up on the first 2/3 pages of new posts, which puts me off a bit as it can get boring occasionally.
If they showed up in new posts it would bring that bit more variety I feel.
If there are particular farming related threads I find interesting, I add them to watched threads, which acts as my personal "new posts" if that makes sense?
Another thing I have noticed, is that when I go to notifications to see the latest on my watched threads, they all get marked as "seen" which is annoying as I can't remember what I have looked at! I don't know if it's the same for anyone else? Could it be changed??

Will re look into this, now we are on v2 software it maybe possible to let users select if they want off topic in their new posts or not, failing that we might be able to get something written when our developers have completed their current Farm Compare project

Thanks @Clive

Embarrassingly just noticed this thread was from 2018 ??? I came across it when looking for something else

Still... In my opinion they are changes I would like to see (not sure about anyone else)

Have learnt a heck of a lot since I joined, maybe one day I might scrape together enough knowledge to teach someone else something and give back in some way.

I somehow doubt it though!! ?

no bad thing bumping it as I say now we are on v2 software that hasn’t been hacked about badly and proper hosting there maybe new possibilities that were not available us back then
