For the cost of Liquid K with some cu zn - personally i'd spray - as long as what you knockdown is not to much - usually pre flowering they stand back up pretty decent. You could look at ground spread in future until levels are higher than what your average is now, then you should be right - all thats needed is maintenance applications.

Going by your yields quoted flower to pod conversion isn't an issue in your area, i'm lucky where l live its not either, but further north of me it can be poor. Its an important stage of recording that gets missed with beans and leaves everyone scratching there head afterwards as its impossible to tell what went on, did i not get flowers or did i get flowers and were poor or good to convert.

Sounds like for the minimal cost of it a application of Yara Krista might payback on Beans regardless, we routinely spray foliar K and Mn on wheats at fungicide timings

Its always hard to tell with beans - if flowering occurs when cold and over a long period - a lower soil K might do as roots have time to scavange, if it comes out hot and they take off, which they often do then they will need plenty of K in that root zone for them to access to keep the plant growth and the reproduction requirements of the plant going. Once again a head scratcher when working out why they yield / dont yield. Most guys ive spoke to in Oz cant nail down the exact reason why there crop yielded or was down on yield - apart from rain - frost - heat. A few will notice when they drop flowers in heat as beans look sick quick.

A fresh soil test in spring and a control strip of no K would be advantageous IMO, to try and work out what a sufficient level of soil K is, and note down the flowering period weather wise and inspect roots to see how they have nodulated.

I think when you get this right for beans the cracker wheat crops follow if weather is nice etc - and with your use of cover crops and improving soil health - setting up for success for sure in my book.

i am a tiny farmer but one of my key indicators of success is chemical/ Diesel use required. I have lowered a huge amount from when i started, if your on the high side and not working to skip some out then being sustainable in future might be hard work in my book.

All looks ok here 2 fields which have been bad for black grass but clean at the min. Beans 27 seeds Wheat planted 420 seeds. The rows are thicker on the better soil down the field. But happy enough . think variable rate seed would make a bigger difference with a claydon than on min till / combi system before.

@Brisel had you done anything to the stubble in the autumn? Was the residue baled? It certainly looks a better design than the older version I have demoed in the past.

He needs to weight it properly, and possibly look at duals. If you're scrabbling the wheelmarks will be poor.

. My little t6 160 walks away with my 3m, putting beans in on the second to deepest hole.
