Top 100 posters

I made a claim in another thread about BBC bias about how much content on TFF is posted by the most frequent, or top posters, if you will.

I can see that the top 20 posters have made almost half a million (ok well 467,709) posts.

But can we actually see the total post count (and possibly breakdown) figures for the top 100 or 200 posters on TFF please?

Totals are displayed in a widget that sits on most TFF pages

could break it down if I had a bit of time to do so through google analytics and the forum backend, FMP and Classifieds also have their own significant traffic levels separate to the forum

PM messages are also not included in the displayed stats and interestingly generate almost as much is posted privately as on the open forum

post are a TINY fraction of visitors that are reading, and how long those visitors send on the site etc that's where the really interesting big numbers are. We certainly make the multiple dedicated severs sweat at times and are planning a move to a much better solution soon

Thanks. Yes it’s the public displayed content and how many posters makes up that content, that would be interesting to see.

The “Notable Members” page make up nearly 500,000 public posts, and that’s just a handful of 20 people.

https://thefarmingforum.co.uk/index.php?members/

So how many posts for example have the top 100 posters made or the top 200?

I get told on a regular basis I post too much on here. So.......a post limit per person then ?
But it'll be like BFF then. won't it ?

I would think a personal post limit would be the very last thing on Clive's mind, probably the exact opposite ;).

A successful forum needs....

A) lots good, up to date content (hopefully from as wide a range of views as possible...hence my OP); and
B) a wide circulation/readership.

Cleary there's lots of folks (and bots) reading/crawling all over TFF but I'm more interested in how big the "pool" of contributors to public content / posts on TFF actually is.

I suspect the vast majority of (public) content on TFF is generated from 200 to 500 or fewer users. But without getting some back end DB stats or deploying a spider/web crawler to scrape the data, got no way of knowing.

thanks - yes you are right, had missed this thread completely, if you want to attract staff attention its always best to tag @Clive @Chris F @Jon S or a moderator

Just an observation.
A quick look at this section and it seems quite a few questions go unanswered.
That could also be down to folks not being sure who to tag.
Coupled with the day to day presence being that largely of volunteers and members not wanting to bother them.

Would it be an idea to ask the moderator team to scan this section when they log in as a matter of protocol?

I recall this coming up back in the day.
I think the "Admin" account gave quite a detailed breakdown.
Would be interesting to compare then and now.

Stats are always fun:D

Yes I thought that was the whole point of this section, without needing to tag any mods etc.

Yes, my understanding is the same as yours.

It seems to have been the fluke of me noticing your thread title that has got the ball rolling.
A bit too random for my liking.

Yes, it does get overlooked I guess sometime, we do our best but its not always good enough - I will make sure everyone makes more effort to check in on it more often

Same old issue of limited time and resource to get the job done, TFF is full time for several people these days and they still only get 80% of what we want to get done sorted every day !

when we get a few spare moments I will take a look and see what numbers I can pull out, it is really interesting when you dig into them behind the scenes just how many people visit this place

Its also interesting how individual perceptions often does not reflect the reality,

Amazon run a site sata and raking service where you can look up any website that has a few interesting stats, they match pretty well with what we see in our analytics account but do vary based on time of year etc It's how advertisers etc get some independent verification of site traffic and popularity etc but you need a paid subscription to really drill down into the data

@Pheasant Surprise , had a bit of a dig and found these from a little over 4 years ago.

4640 have made at least one post, and 3712 have posted at least twice.

5578 people have signed in at least once in the last 30 days, 3522 in the last 7.

Most people are registered for about 3 months before they actually post anything

There is a noticeable spike in traffic every morning between 8-9 on weekdays, presumably when the office dwellers have a browse.

About 1000 private messages are sent each day (tff underworld?)

About half a million notifications are generated each day! (And you wonder why we cannot diagnose the odd one that goes awol!)
