Hi
Iam nick a metal detectorist for about 1 year. I live in wiltshire and I'm seeking kind permission from farmers/land owners in wiltshire or Somerset to go detecting. Iam a member of the NCMD so fully covered by insurance and i have contracts to fill out and sign by both partners. Hope to hear from you soon.
Cheers

Don't think you understood my thread mate ! Don't send me stupid links again thanks !!

I think you may have taken this the wrong way, it is a light hearted thread, and should be taken as such, we get lots of new members requesting metal detecting, this is how the thread was born, iirc @JCMaloney is a detectorist himself, and certainly no offence would have been meant by him posting a link to the thread. :)

Just joined as I am looking for pointers as of how to ask permission from land owners and followed link, I thought it was quite funny and tongue in cheek , been looking on farming sites and quite alarmed at how much abuse is thrown at farmers because they wont give permission for a complete stranger to wander round their land and look for treasure. I will now try local land owners round Bolton area and see if I can obtain any permissions ,now must look for my copy of How to win friends lol

Just a word of advice to anyone looking for land to detect on, it is very likely that many farmers close to urban ares have been pestered to death by wannabe detectorists, and find it difficult to be polite when they get yet another request. Also many such farms, like ours, have been covered continuously over a period of years, and are very unlikely to yield anything other than ring pulls and old horseshoes.

You are all quite correct about your feelings towards metal detectorists thinking that its their right to wander over and get permission. I fully understand its your workplace and as such in use most of the time if not all . Also from what I can gather it seems most places were hammered back in the eighties ,and several have been illegally detected and items removed without consent i.e. theft in any ones eyes . Having said that we are not all the same and the farms or land around me don't appear to be working farms as such , but I may be wrong on that score , I used to get a negative reaction regarding fishing old farm ponds and again it all seemed to come down to past damage caused by others . By the way I only bought detector to try new hobby as getting to old to lug half a tonne of fishing gear round , :)

I do wish you well with your quest, it is a very addictive hobby and finding a permission is like finding the holy grail .
I like yourself came to this forum with great expectations thinking nobody has ever thought of asking ( how wrong was I ) so I decided on a different tact and offered my engineering services and it was a member on this forum who put me in touch with a farmer local to myself who needed a few jobs done as his engineer had retired and to be honest it’s been absolutely fantastic.
So if there is something that you could offer you might find it would help finding the permission that you want, and if you are lucky enough to be offered it treasure it so good luck and I hope the above advice helps

For sale one used copy of "How to win friends & influence people" . :):)

@ace250 lighten up, join in, get involved. Learn things.
Looks like you are a bit of a keyboard muck stirrer, you sent me an email that is threatening in itself, and because it is secure mail server it gave me a lot of info on you mr moloney.
I take threats like that very seriously, so you can wait for the outcome of that. To all metal detectors wanting permissions, go locally to yourself, don't cross any borders because there has been a remark made to me that a certain person from anglesey does not like entering a foreign country to go to a show ie ( England ) .

That is because you have chosen to have email notifications of replies on the forum on that thread. It`s not "from me" !
At the top of the thread is a button that say`s "Unwatch" and in your setting you can uncheck notification by email as well.
I`m sure @Clive can confirm. (y)
Hope that helps.

Something odd has obviously happened to this thread earlier, as I got a notification about an update, but it took me to the first post rather than the new ones, which is a bit odd :scratchhead:
