There must an opening here for a aftermarket 'Prevent your Disco engine seizing kit"

Kit contains,
One set of main shells with locating tab suited for the cap.
One set of conrod shells with tab suited for the cap.
Bolts if it's that fancy stretch ones.
Sump gasket.

Remove sump, pull all the main and conrod caps, take to a good engineering shop, get appropriate recess machined to suit new shell.
Rebuild, no need to mess with head, or crank out etc.
Spinning shells solved!!

It cant be that hard?
Or am I missing something?

The only fly in the ointment with your perfectly sensible suggestion is that the engine has to to come out to get the sump and girdle off to access the crank bearings...and to do that the body has to come off.

Not familiar with the technical layout of Discoveries etc. Shame you can't get the sump off easy then.

Yes. Spin and cut off the oil supply.

Main bearings tend to be a real challenge for engine designers on V confuguration engines. There just isn't the space to package a decent surface area due to the constrained layout. Give me a straight 6 engine every day -a far superior configuration from a strength and durability perspective. Lets hope JLR get their 3.0 straight 6 to market. I see the mild hybrid petrol version is now available which suggests there is hope....

Don't be surprised if the anti-diesel sentiment kills the straight six development off. A hard no-deal brexit would certainly kill it and the Castle Bromwich Jaguar factory off. A straight six will not fit in any of their current models without compromising the crash test, so the range needs massive investment apart from the engine itself. I would be surprised if they risked going ahead with it, considering their sales decline.

This diesel vendetta is a bloody travesty. They just need to introduce congestion charging then those that want to drive round in the towns and cities can either pay through the nose on the charge or get a car which is exempt. It pisses me off beyond belief. DPFs and exhaust gas treatments have made a vast amount of difference to particulate and NOx levels so diesels are ok away from urban areas.

The current diesel vendetta, if it exists, is no different to the vendetta against petrol engines that existed 15 years ago.

Personally I can't understand the love of diesel. Diesel engines belong in tractors, or canal boats. Horrible, complicated, dirty things with no real advantages over the modern petrol-powered equivalent IMHO.

Update on My Discovery 4 which suffered engine failure on Monday morning. It went to Stratstone LR yesterday afternoon, Got a phonecall from the service manager 9.00am this morning to say they have sent a report off to JLR with their findings ( Engine Oil Filter with Metal in it) and they would likely hear something early next week if Landrover would offer any contribution to the new engine needed,

This afternoon Jaguar Landrover have offered 80% contribution the parts and labour. Needless to say I've accepted their offer 2014 Model HSE Discovery 4 72000 miles warranty expired March 2017

Local garage hear does a fair few engines in these he rekons the biggest cause is people running them low on engine oil after all there’s no dipstick only a computer sequence to go through to check the oil level so people don’t do it
