Shooting permission

Good evening all.

Please let me introduce myself to you, my name is Dave I’m 41 years of age I have recently moved to Ratby in Leicestershire where I live with my soon to be wife and her daughter, my pastimes are shooting and fishing. I earn my living as a vna driver in a warehouse, it’s not exciting but it keeps the wolves from the door and food on the table.

What I’m looking for is some wooded land on which I can control the grey squirrel population most of if not all of the folks on here know the damage that they cause to trees, song bird nests and of course they are the main reason for the decline of our native red squirrels. I have at the moment one small area that I have permission to shoot on, when I started on this permission in August the chap who owns the land said there was a few running round in the small corpse of trees, now we are January and I have despatched over one hundred from a single feeder, he cannot believe how many there was in such a small area. Well now there is only the odd one or two left, I have a trail camera that watches the feeder and the number of squirrels that visit the feeder is down to one or two a week where as before there was four or five on the feeder at a time.

My method for controlling the squirrels is very simple, I have a small feeder attached to a tree and it is filled with peanuts, after initially setting up the feeder I will leave it alone for two weeks only going to refill it and if permission is given for a trail camera I will change the memory card in that to see how many are visiting it and roughly what times of day, when I feel confident that the squirrels are happy to feed off it then I will begin to despatch them. I like to shoot from a distance of 20 yards.

I think I’ve finally ran out of things to tell you................ except that I’m fully insured through BASC, very reliable and honest.

In all honesty I don’t have much to offer in return except for a strong back and I’m always willing to help.

Thank you for taking the time to read my request, I feel a little cheeky doing it this way but as my old dad said if you don’t ask you don’t get. Please pm me if you have any questions.

Thanks again and take care all Dave.

Forgot to add that I can supply a reference from the land owner whose land I currently shoot on, unfortunately I cannot from previous landowner as he sold the land for development.

sorry dont have any squirrels, but i cant help wondering , Do you eat the squirrels?

One of my friends will eat them but can’t bring himself to shoot them, and another friend has hawks so I pass them on to him.

Do you have any vermin I could help with or maybe somewhere I can set up some targets?

Anyone who can me help in my search I would be very grateful, I’m sure if you met me you would realise what a decent chap I am:)

Thanks again Dave.

I live in the outer hebrides. we dont have any trees or tree rats and its a bit of a step for some target practice. there may well be a squirrel culling club near you, or at least a rifle club to practice

Blimey that would be a long way to go to shoot some targets lol. There is a rifle club near by buts it’s nearly £200 a year and not open for many hours a day so with me working shifts I don’t think I would get value for money from using it.

Good luck with your quest. One day last Autumn I must have arrived at a Squirrel party! It seemed each time I dropped one another appeared. I dropped 21 squirrels in about 5 minutes and without moving more than 5m. Had to quit because the cartridge belt ran empty! Never seen anything like it and doubt I will again, it was like being in an arcade game.

That’s a good day, I only use an air rifle.

I’ve managed over 100 from my present feeder. I’ve got them under control now which is why I’m looking for somewhere to do the same again. I’m on a mission to get rid of as many of the grey menaces as I can.
