Why aren’t tractors becoming more economical?

Hold on mind, the JD 6150R is a far cry from the machine of 20 years prior. I bet it is heavier, can lift more, has more gizmos like suspension and can produce a lot more torque for more of the curve than a 6910 or similar could in its day.

I used to drive an MX170 that had the wick turned up a fair bit. Compare that to a Puma 185(?) today and the Puma would rip it in half and is a lot better at dragging something through the dirt.

Standard fuel use is available on the Nebraska tractor test results

50 k tractors use more than 30 k tractors as most drivers use fuel to get to the higher speed the brake to slow down
100 hp tractor is now much heavier than 1980 built tractor

Hold on.

Someone will be along shortly to tell us that actually a certain brand of engine is up to 30% more fuel efficient than a near competitor.
Ah yes the amazing tractor that does about 4x the mpg of your average lorry.

I’m just baffled why one particular brand that Ag dealers sell don’t have there yards full of scanias and volvos etc that have been part exed in a massive fuel saving exercise!

First law of Thermodynamics:

The first law of thermodynamics, also known as Law of Conservation of Energy, states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed; energy can only be transferred or changed from one form to another.

Work= force x distance.

Moving 1kg mass through 1meter = 10nm of Energy or 10 joules.

Energy for this application is found by turning fuel into energy via combustion.

To be 4 times as economical than typical - the above laws of scientific understanding would have discarded.

Modern cars are over powered for 95 % of the time, mostly they are cruising along using just a fraction of the engines potential. Same litre size as years ago but far more power, but your rarely using it. The old ford 1.8na diesel did close to 60mpg, modern stuff similar, but has the added ability to throw more diesel and air in to make power..6 gears helps too.Tractors tend to be asked to pull a specific load and that will always use similar fuel.. Can't see a few hundred kilo's of weight making much difference, but wide soft tyres and ac, big alternator and air compressor will use up some hp, and of course powershift/vario can use more fuel on some jobs.
