Lishman floor vent system vs pedestals

Has any one had any exsperence with this system currently putting a new store up and don't know weather to go down this root or not I like the way it vents to the outside but I'm worried about the sockets in floor leaking and fans pulling osr out of the shed also the floor is harder to lay is pulling hot air down stupid rather than up
Good points are that there is no climb in on heap to move fans no cables over the heap and less chance of them falling over no roof fan needed either
Thoughts very much appreciated or any other systems out there I should think of

if I was concretinga shed I would look at ventilation from the outside rather than pedistals a lot easier filling and emptying as well as no need for trailing wires across grain also no need for extra ventilation fans in roof for warm air

I have pedistals and a mobile dryer as well as full drying floors

How do you know where they are when loading out though? Just keep hoping ones not in the lorry..

I presume they will appear in the slope of the grain unless u have a 15ton bucket

You would mark the floor in front of the sites or hang some string from the beams above the pedestals.

I have free standing pedestals and motors on top. Setting the pedestals up isn't tricky at all. We load the shed from a spout above but just heap a bit of grain around them with the forklift to stop them falling over as the heap grows. The tricky bit is lifting the fan motors onto the top of the pedestals. They are heavy 3 phase ones & walking up the heap with one is hard work! The mass of wiring for the motors & sensors looks untidy but it's not too bad. The system is a great one and we haven't had any bugs in the shed since we installed it so it has worked out well. I can thoroughly recommend it.

The underfloor version looks good & if I was building a new shed I'd consider it but I can see the columns getting beaten up over time. I'd rather have a ventilated drive on drying floor but if there was already a conveyor overhead or a bunker store I can see the place for it.

Yes We have pedestals in our other stores I can see some advantages from the new system but struggleing to see enough to tempt me in to having a tricky to pour floor

Did you install the lishman system in the end Agricontract? I have to make my decision fairly soon as to go for it or not.

Can supply Poly cool pedestals or meta-cool via Farm Marketplace, prices are very good - I think the Lishman ones are also listed on there


we use metal pedestals in our own stores but If I was doing it again I would go for the Polycool

I have an extractor fan on the outside of my shed with the pedestals. IMO it's a key ingredient or you're just recycling damp/warm air through the heap. This illustrates it well. http://martinlishman.com/storevent/

I’ve gone for perforated cladding over the whole gable end after having a look at someone else’s shed, instead of having fans or louvres. It let massive amounts of fresh air in so hoping it is sufficient on mine which is a similar size. With the floor vent system it sucks the air out so that warm air is being expelled directly to the outside.

Not on our own stores - we use pedestals with fans in top plus a building fan to pull cool external air in

You say tricky to pour the floor, but wouldnt you have the pipes deep in the hardcore and just uprights to go round? You wouldnt want the concrete shallower for the pipe as it will cause a crack.
