I think the girls need to be going out by night. Got some lovely looking covers that need taking down :)

Grass starting to noticably blow in the strong winds today. Don't ask me what it measures! Looks like it's taken a fair bit of nitrogen up in the warmth of Feb. Then again, it never lost the green this winter. March has been slower progress though, with highs of 6-8 and lows of 2-4. Forecast not looking much better. We've had half a months rain already in the first week of March. Calved a couple of girls outside this week on light ground, brought them in this morning, and it's not a pretty sight.

Feels like a record here though to have so much grassland work completed in February. Just have to keep feet off it till the weather settles down again.

End of day 9 of calving here exactly 100 calved.37%
98 live calves.
100 live cows
5 milk fevers(4 cows)
3 retained cleansing
1 heifer wearing shackles for a few days after a difficult calving.
2 cows being treated for mastitis.

All in all very very average. Though very laid back.
End of day 15 see us upto 50 % calved. A day longer than last yr:(:scratchhead:
139 calved
137 live calves
6 milk fevers ( 5 cows)
3 retained cleansings
Heifer still wearing shackles. Getting much better.

Are you not tempted to use sexed on these exceptional cows? How did your heifers do that you reared and calved?
Yes I have some sexed in the tank but just don’t want to lose sight of how simple my life is just now.... and I still feel like we could be making a better job of the cows never mind having the extra stress of rearing heifers. The ones I calved in are now all calved again a couple are my top milkers so that does make me wonder, Got 16 heifers in last month av me £1550 all giving over 35l and all less than 26months. There was 1 that was a bitch and kept kicking unit off she got sent back. Most of my heifers are coming from 1 place now and I seem to have a good relationship and they know what I want
