Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

In a space of 6 months, St Merryn have gone from the best paying per kg, to the worse. They were the ones setting the price leading the field, now they are just dragging behind, price wise.
Probably because they’ve got the contract /cost of production lambs covering then using other lambs to bring average price back in line

Store cattle

Numbers very short for the time of year at less than 600 head penned sold to a much stronger trade than previous weeks with strong feeding cattle up a good £50+ head on the week.

Stirks

A strong entry of over 400 head penned saw 2nd grade/ poor sorts selling to the strongest trade for many weeks however strong suckler/ dairy bred cattle saw little demand with many of these cattle being sold on the maiden bids, the top end would be back some £50+ head on the week and some cattle looked very well bought.

Store lambs,

A very small entry numbers wise which saw many tail end lambs penned sold to a very strong trade and well up on the week, many many pens around the £86/87 head mark.

Orphan lambs,

A massive entry of some 80 head sold to a strong trade with the smallest lambs seeing the biggest demand with 5/7 day old lambs easily making £25+ head with some of these sorts smashing the £30 barrier.

Cull ewes.

Now these were the highlight of the day across all rings when trade can only be describe as exceptional compared to the last few months and some buyers commented that trade was up £20 head on the week, new buyers in town helped push trade on.
