Looks like both ewes and hogs have turned the corner, be interesting to see if numbers will come out this next week.
I am told the trade are concerned numbers are not out there, Easter is still 5 weeks away and next major festival not till May

What’s caused ewes to jump this week...
Recon this week's votes has put some confidence in market
AHDB figures are only showing ewes up a couple of quid on the week. Newark's jump was probably due to more Texel types and less Mules. As I said above, the 'slight disagreement' between one of the buyers and the auctioneer didn't do any harm ;) - the other buyers were happy enough to 'shut him out' for a while :)

Numbers aren’t out there, and haven’t been since last Spring’s dreadful lambing. If it wasn’t for the uncertainty over Brexit & no-deal, everything is lined up for a severe shortage of lamb, and consequently decent prices, until June/July at least imo (early lamb numbers down everywhere too).

Ewes have been very low for many months with higher numbers of lean ewes being sold. There was not the usual price increase after all the Tups have been put in during December and it looks as if the increase now is due to low numbers and better condition ewes.
Once people start lambing and scanning has finished numbers reduce rapidly.

Hoggets always get dearer now as most of the large numbers are held by the large finishers who have more influence on the markets. Selling hoggets deadweight recently has not been very clever unless they were exactly in spec and no good at all if they were lighter as the market prices for below 42 kg animals has been better live weight by some margin if these are 18 - 19 kg carcase.

Providing the Lunatics in the Asylum called Parliament don't do anything silly and we remain in the EU for the foreseeable future or at least until the end of June then it is looking very good. (Not as good as last year!!)
Numbers are definitely lower and all evidence points to less Milk lambs from ewes tupped and lambing %'s being lower so there will be insufficient numbers until well into June.
Heavy hoggets will also improve as ewes get dearer, however there will be a premium for the in spec lambs for the export market in the lead up to Easter, currency could take the shine off this if a Brexit deal is done!

I might be wrong though and we crash out with no deal and end up with massive tariffs!!

Yes, we wouldn't want them to do anything silly and preserve democracy.
