New combination drill?

Me too, we're obviously very slow!

We've 4m folding on 220hp and happy with 50-60 acres per day. Starting at 8 and working till about 9.

We've seed in field, and ends levelled to try and increase output!

Guess sowing grain and fert slows the job down a bit, some places we're putting on 375kg/ha of fert on too.

I wouldn't worry too much about headline figures, my best day with the 4m combination was 87 acres, this included an f1 style tractor swap at 6pm.

Sounds like serious output and it was but a few details show it was really a one off thing, first field 45 acres, dead square, 8 tramlines so a nice long run, seed in the field, 1 ton in hopper per fill and was on mintil land so just tickling the top, second field was 42 acre and same sort of length and square, square as in 1 width of the drill covered the short work.

Next day was in a 45 acre with 17 corners, 8 telegraph poles and fresh ploughing, 500kg in the hopper dragging soil meant I didn't even get the headland finished that day. Just shows how things change.

We’re the same yes nearly 70 acres one day but everything went right. The following day I only did 22 acre.

Every jobs the same, I can honestly say I can combine 120 acre between 1pm and 10pm in a decent crop, have to then say it was in 3 fields, 2 of which had the headlands already off with the forager and never needed the header off. Next day 5 fields biggest was 11 acre and 3 different farms, 45 acre cut.

I have every intention of swapping our 3m combi for a 4m version in the near future.

Will TM155 pull it?

To begin with it won’t have any choice[emoji23]
Can you manage without the p/h ? this still makes her sing for its supper !!

She lift all that lot ok I assume?

We’re not on heavy going and normally drill in B4. Am happy to accept forward speed will be less, but the 155 will only be a tempary measure on the drill till I can rustle up some pennies for a 175 or 190 to replace an older tractor we have.

Edit- that one looks identical to my tractor, same front linkage and even got the rotating idiot light in the same place.

My next question is can you lads running 4m combi get turned at row ends without taking a shunt?

I can at a pinch with 3m but needs a extra headland run to do it.

Yes lift is no problem its not the usual drill tractor but due to "technical issues " with the 7550 had to use the TM . we usually Cambridge roll the ploughing first or sometimes run a cultivator over some of it . If we have to we'll run straight on the ploughing and it does a really good job for us and is super cheap to run !!
I used to run a 4m cultivator drill like that on ploughed and pressed land with a front press. 956xl pulled it no bother but it didn’t do the linkage much good....

I'd heard the accord S drill is a good outfit?
I'm surprised there hasn't been a mention of Rabe?
Rabe have never seemed to really take off in the uk for some reason? It could be down to dealer network maybe.
I went round there factory many years ago, it’s some very well engineered kit that’s been thought out.
Not sure if it’s still the same but you could change ph bearings and even remove the gears by just taking a plate off one end of the bed. Not many ph you can do that on!

Only ever manage about 7.5km max as that’s the top gear in the range I use.suppose I could go faster but would have to come down a range for headland turning as I try to treat my tractor gingerly and not let it bounce about with a bit of clutch slipping.i suppose a new auto power tractor would sort these issues
Nick...
Haven’t you bought one yet Nick!:p Or still struggling with people not wanting your money!

We run a Horsch KR Express and it's a big heavy drill ,with 120 kg of Coulter pressure the seed is put where you want it.Pulled by a Kubota 171 4 cylinder kvt which is always on top of the job we can do up to 40 acres on a good day in a min till system. The new Amazone has a very similar twin disc set up and looks a good tool.Happy with our set up,though.
We replaced our Amazone combi with a Horsch 2 years ago as the amazone coulters struggled in anything other than ideal conditions. The Horsch is a much better drill imo, apart from the slightly wider coulter spacing.

I find all these numbers impressive. I'm running 3m Maschio on 125HP 6cyl old school with a front press on mostly medium to heavy bits of land. Mostly onto ploughed and furrow pressed land. Don't think I ask the PH to do too much though obviously this makes a big difference, it has erads so no need to work deep to pull up wheel marks. Mostly struggle to do 30ac in day. Either running back for seed or taking my own out in the morning. How fast are you chaps going 12k + ? I tend to be about 8k and do quite a bit up to 10 and horrible bits down to 6. But I don't have hills like some of you either.
Thats positively formula 1 compared to my output !!
It took me three bits of days at the end of feb to get 14 acres of beans ploughed and drilled. Regular casual went on the beer and never showed up to do the ploughing and between cows calving milking etc never seemed to be get a to the field on time . Normally im happy to get 15 acres a day working into fresh ploughing in autumn and 20 acres in worked down spring conditions . Only have 220 acres of crops so time is sort of on my side usually !!

Last lot of combi drilling we did was spring barley straight into ploughing last spring. Not nice ground and it took 20 hours to sow 17ha as we were working the levelling boards properly.

And what’s going on with combi prices? I’ve just seen a 2012 4m Lemken on Facebook for £31,000! Think we’ll stick with our 20 yr old Kuhn/Accord in the nettles for when we want a combi.
