Guidance on the cheap

Thank you Charles.

I am not certain my brain can deal with such electrickery these days!! ;)

Once upon a time I loved fiddling with such stuff, but got increasingly bemused as time went on and I got left behind. It always seems to take a while to get up to speed ....

Can't find any boards based on the M8T that support bluetooth natively, but you can whack one of these serial to bluetooth converters onto the serial line
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10pcs-HC...ver-Module-Serial-For-Arduino-5V/283429651878
So that the GPS data generated by the M8T will be sent over bluetooth to your tablet.
I would actually recommend 12v powered usb hub. They are not very expensive, and wired connection IMO is more reliable. Just one cable to the tablet and 12v from tractor (you need them anyway for steering motor) and you are good to go.
I use Cerea on New Holland I use and I plan to make AgOpenGPS setup for my Fendt.

For those who are just looking into this cheap autosteer - be prepared that this will not be 12k Trimble kit which just plugs and plays into the computer and just works. You need to understand each little piece of the puzzle to know what is going on in case of error.

Agreed.
Good, cheap, easy. Pick two.

Although I am currently condensing my electrical setup into one box, all external sensors connectorised etc, which while the user would need to mechanically install it, the hard work has been done.
I think most farmers would happily invest a couple of days tinkering to make up a bracket for the wheel angle sensor and the hydraulic valve if it saves them £10k, and the electronic setup is limited to plugging everything together and adjusting a few basic settings.

A very interesting read. So looking at the components you have highlighted, would these all be plug and play? I appreciate a waterproof box and a tablet running a GPS app is also required.
My understanding (Excuse the crudeness) GPS Antenna------> Mikroe Reciever------> Tablet running GPS app. Does the receiver get its power from the tablet?
Id be looking to run this from my ATV for fert and spraying.

The receiver is USB powered so the tablet will provide that.
You will need a tablet that runs full Windows 10, to run AgOpenGPS. I have no idea if this will work with Android and any of the apps on there.
The receiver should present itself as a COM port when you plug it in, you can then set it up for the first time in U-center, which allows you to select update rate, constellations, SBAS etc.
After you're happy and have saved the configuration you can open up AgOpen, tell it what com port to look at, and away you go.

There are apps for Android that provide simple guidance using built-in gps, but it is usually not very accurate. Field navigator is one of them. There are few more. Also, Efarmer works on Android, agribus navi, I am sure there are more.
Ublox m8t receiver in the Best conditions can provide 1m accurracy, but that is not very accurate. I would suggest AgOpenGPS for use in tractors, on an ATV it wont be very useful as this application is thought mainly for auto steer.
Plus consider, that you need a holder for the tablet, box can be bought from hardware store, etc. Most of the Cerea guys from Germany print out parts, holder etc with a 3D printer, which is a cost efficient solution, but not for everybody

I like the look of patchwork Blackbox gps.
It looks a simple programme to use. I would just need to build a mount for my ATV
Depends on the price.
Maybe a used Trimble EZ guide 250 would be for you?
Cheaper solution could be your average Android phone, Bluetooth connected gps module and a free app from the play market. But it is up to you.

I bought one last year for wanting to get the ends right with a potato planter. I was told 30cm accurancy but i think its more like 1.5m at best. Have been so dissapointed with it, the main problem is the boundary line can move by upto 3m on 1 side only, this is really annoying. Patchwork have no answers to it. Its a shame as its so simple to use and set up

Yep, that's what I thought.
All these systems cost about the same as you would have to invest in either AgOpenGPS or Cerea and these can give you rtk accurracy.

As for the OP, I suggest either to make markers for implements, use phone gps with an app or buy a tractor

The thing i dont get with my patchwork is there will be 1 side in every field that moves, the other 3 sides will be perfect, there's never a field that the headland line doesn't move on and is right on all sides.
Have complained to them and they even been out to see it working and seen the fault. No one else has complained they said! Said they are too busy devopling me products to help fix the issue
