A new bodge shed

New & bodge in the same sentence :eek:

Had an old shed we used to keep cattle in beside the crush, was built around 78~9 as a pighouse then the internal walls were ripped out, was still being used the odd time for cattle going to mart, sick animal beside crush, or at the end of the year could feed in the yard & still go out to the fields.

When it was the main cattle shed they fed out in the yard, shut them up in the shed while putting a bale in, then could shut them out while putting straw in, cleaned the yard enery 3 weeks or so, shed could only be cleaned out with 35 & buckrake.

It worked well but was a bit messy & labour intensive too.

Then the roof fell in...

Then we realised how much we had used it.
Thought for a while about what to do, then came up with a (very) rough plan to bodge a new shed around the old buildings & put a roof over the crush as well, we get a fair amount of rain & if it's not raining it's blowing a gale down the valley.

new steel arrived

More holes, end plates on trusses this time

truss going round from workshop, was on my own that day, rest went round on a chain with one man steering

should have been earlier
first truss going up

the plan was to put a few inches of concrete over the floor just to level it...

but then realised that would have left the feed passage lower than the floor
can also see why the wall was left till the last, once it's down that takes the crush out of use

had a think about it, the pighouse was built when I was a kid & I can just about remember the yard being there, the pighouse was just put on top of the old yard, so with a bit of luck we could just take it back down to that level.
wall down & floor stripped out
