Algal growth in water troughs

We have several large water troughs that seem to grow green algae at a rate of knots. We emptied them all at turnout but a month later and they're growing the stuff again. Apparently hypo kills it off, but it is safe to put hypo in while cattle are drinking? If so, what dilution should I use?

Interesting. We never used to have a problem but since putting mag chloride flakes in the troughs they are now a deep green colour. I wonder if goldfish would survive in water high in mag?

We are on a home supply water with a reservior. Could I use PIP+ water in it? Where do you get it from? Only sheep drink the water but we do use it for fiiling the sprayer - any issues with this?

PIP+ is the product I refer to in my Pruex thread. I have linked to the supplier there.:)
