how big do I set the bale core size in relation to bale diameter or does it not matter? On a v660.

That could be as small as the core size will go unless you're lucky enough to have an early 2018 baler which was still 60cm .

Basically set it as small as possible because until it gets to whatever size core you have set you have no hydraulic pressure on the bale just the springs on the back door

On my 2017 V660 I can set core and main part of bale pressure separately. I usually run them at the same figure unless it’s doggy straw where I drop core density a bit more than outer density to try stop the bales going like cardboard.

As with all v660 but what part of the bale are you altering when you change the core pressure? Up to the core size or starting from the core size ?

I would say if I set core size at 140 bar and above core size at 160 bar that what happens.

Obviously the bit in the very middle of the bale will be less pressure as it needs a certain amount of material in the chamber before the pressure gauge comes up.

I certainly notice a difference in power required when bale goes from core to the next stage if chopping grass in a big swath.

However I usually leave core and main part of bale both set at 160 bar unless crop conditions dictate otherwise.

So if you're core size is 60 are you altering up to 60 or over it ?

Altering up to it I believe. Then outer part of bale is at the pressure that is set at.
Unfortunately that's where everyone is misled .

The pressure is only in the springs on the outside of the back door until 60 then the hydraulic system takes over .

If you try it make a small bale until the pressure gauge starts to move put a net on it and it'll measure 60cm

The pressure gauge won't be sitting at 0 but it's not doing anything as in the end of the density rams there's a slot and by the time the density arm goes over centre and takes up the slots to a 60 cm bale altering the hydraulic pressure does nowt . And in their wisdom last year they made the minimum core size 90cm!!!

Well I did say it need a certain amount of material to get any pressure up and haven’t used my baler since last sept so memory of it has faded a little. So will say your correct.

It took me a while to work out what the problem was in 2015 until one day I was off the seat and saw the 4inch slot when the chamber was full and I started watching what the pressure gauge was doing.
